HP 7640 Scanned Document Won't Print Full Size

Howdy and Merry Christmas. Dell Laptop/Win7/IE 10/rebooted twice/ran Webroot/cleaned cookies. I've tried the Net for hours but can't find the right wording extract help to fix my all in one HP problem.

I usually scan a full letter size document. Then I generally put it in photo editor Picasa to edit a bit. I do that because I like to lighten/darken a printed copy so the reader can see it better.

Today I went through my regular process to scan a couple of letter size documents. When I printed the document it showed up about 20% of regular size and barely readable. It seems there should be an easy fix. I've not had any significant problems with my computer since the MS thing in September. I'll appreciate suggestions and comments. Thanks.

Sounds like it has nothing to do with the PC itself but simply the image or print settings. But to start off with, can you adjust the scan settings to be darker, or black and white, or grey-scale, or whatever? It seems odd that an adjustment to the image would be required.

Moving along, what program are you using to do the printing? Does it have a Print Preview choice? Programs that do allow the print size to be adjusted. Sometimes even when not, Print and then Properties may allow some adjustment. If what you're using doesn't offer that choice, try using a different program to print the file.

Thanks for your help. The problem still exists but I got by my hurdle, I hope. It started when I needed to return a form that required my clarity.

I reduced Word print to an 8 font. From Word I was able to print two lines of identification data. I then cut the that data from the printed sheet. I pasted that data in an area of the form that needed my clarification. Then I printed a copy of the edited form. Then I scanned that copy to Desktop in order to have a Desktop file. Then I returned the Desktop edited form to the sender via email.

Sure sounds like a lot of trouble, doesn't it. Thanks for reading this. I did this explanation more for me. Hope I was too boring. But I was being pushed to get it done. It is very apparent that I have edited the form that was sent to me. I'm not trying to fool anyone. I just need to make sure the sender and I are on the same track. Its been 24 hours and I've not heard back from the sender. I think it is okay.

I'm pretty slow about studying things. I need to reread what you said and pursue the printing issue of HP and/or Picasa. Thanks again.

Here's my latest attempt. Uninstalled the software everywhere I could find it. Did an Error Check and then a defrag. Rebooted. Downloaded the software again. Disconnected the printer and reconnected it accoriding to instructions on the Quck Start poster that came with my printer. After installation, I did a manual test page, which printed out fine. I made sure the printer is listed as the default. But when I tried yet again to print from a computer file, yet again nothing happened. If I had a cd, I don't now. That's strange because I have the cd for my scanner,which is older than my printer. I also have cd's that came with my first computer, years ago. But no printer cd. There is still an explanation in front of the Printer Port in the DM, and the printer is still not listed there. The link you gave, grandms, didn't help, unfortunately. I will go to the hp site to locate the live person when I have the time to devote to it. I've spent so much time on this, my RL is slipping, and I have to catch up. Back on the subject of Brother printers (inkjet). Several years ago, I had need for a fax machine, so I went to Staples in search of something inexpensive. I was surprised to find out that I could buy a multi-function Brother machine, including fax for only $10 more than a fax alone. So I bought one for around $70. It uses separate ink cartridges, so cost of maintaining ink is very reasonable. I still have the printer, sitting in a box, because the HP inkjet I've been using refuses to die. Perhaps some day I'll be able to make use unless drivers are not available. It does have drivers for Windows 7; I don't know about Windows 8. I don't know if it could take rough usage since all parts seem to be plastic, but I am not hard on fixtures and appliances :-). I really don't print enough to need a laser printer, but the crisp, sharp look can't be beat.

I have been working at finding away to change the default font on all documents since this thread started. No matter what I clicked on the starter version came up so I thought that might be my problem. I finally uninstalled MS Office Starter and MS Office Student and Home, then just reinstalled the student and home. I still could not get the font style to stay at what I set it. I thought about what was said about the 2003 version and opened a blank page, set the font and single space, went to file and chose "save as". A menu came up and I chose to saveto my desktop as MS Word 97-2003 Template (.dot) and made a shortcut, so far it has held. In case some else is still having this problem I am posting my results. None of the other ways worked for me, a new document always came up with Office's default settings.

Thought I'd update. Got Windows installed without a hitch, Dell talked me through it. I debated whether to put Win 7 in since I was starting from scratch but worried some of my software might not work Everything went well except I couldn't find drivers for some things such as my wireless adapter so couldn't get on line. Called Linksys and they spent over an hour trying to get the driver in and finally did. That was the best part, finally getting on line and getting hit with a zillion MS updates. I have misplaced or lost some software. We moved here in March and I could not locate my Office disk, wireless mouse/keyboard software and a few other things, might have gotten lost in the move. I'm most concerned about Office 07. I paid for it. Dell says they can't help and I could try contacting MS and see if they would do anything. I haven't moved any of my files back yet. Otherwise, I feel like the computer runs better than when it was new. Things seem different, have to fool with fonts and views, but I'm amazed how effortlessly the machine runs. This computer always seemed to have a few 'glitches' but I was used to it. Now it seems so fast and smooth (of course there isn't much running on it yet.) I don't know how to thank everyone for all the support and help I received. You are the best friends anyone could ever ask for. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks! Are you using Firefox ? Or maybe this is not related to that ... I know when at 1 time I tried to print a mailing label it wont come out to size... I went to the tool bar on my screen up at the right hand corner there are 3 bars ..click on that and see if the print icon comes up click on that and see if it's at 100% if not change it and see if that helps... sorry just spit-balling here good luck.
