Anyplace like Smith Mtn Lake in Virginia?

We should have bought property at Smith Mtn. Lake near Roanoke Virginia years ago when it was still affordable. Does anyone know of any other areas similar that are still affordable? We will consider Virginia, Tenn., N. Carolina, Georgia,- anyplace that doesn't have a winter like NE Ohio where we are currently living. We'd love a place on a lake to enjoy our retirment.

We live in FL, but own a hoome in Sylva, NC, which is in the mountain and lakes region of Western North Carolina. There is Fontana Lake, Lake Chatuge, and a few other lakes near Hayesville, NC on the NC/GA line. Mild climate and friendly people. I have my trade list going--I'm going to be bringing a lot of the same stuff to try to give away. I know many of y'all say "anything unusual" on your want list,but I don't have too many of those yet. Just tryin' to keep stuff alive like everybody else. By the way, I like the "Advisory" that shows up on the ordering form page of the Plant Delights catalog I'm looking through: "ADVISORY: If you have already run your credit cards up to the limit, we suggest that you get a higher credit limit before reading through this catalog." What a beautiful place you have. I have a couple of suggestions. One; don't say small bedrooms, just say bedrooms. You have the sizes listed, people can judge for themselves. Really, only one of them seems small to me. Two; your pictures are in no order. You should regroup them. Start with the front of the house and the porch. Then show the inside rooms. Put all of the bedroom pictures together and all of the kitchen together. I didn't see a picture of the bathroom, can you put a picture of it? You don't need all the pictures you have. Next do the putside areas. Cut some of them, like the pictures of the dogs. Put all the barn and horse pictures together. Put all of the backyard/deck pictures togeather. Some of your pictures are too dark and many of them look cluttered. For example clear all the small stuff off your kitchen countertops before the picture is taken. You could get an estimate for converting the smallest bedroom into a bathroom. Even if you don't plan on doing it you could have it to show a buyer. I think a lot of people would perfer a 3 bedroom 2 bath house to a 4 bedroom 1 bath house. Good luck, I hope you get another buyer soon!

Last night I watched Selma (free rental on Amazon Prime and YouTube). We're discussing it in a Zoom class today and I'd left it till the last minute. I was totally unprepared for its impact. Some of it was difficult to watch but I needed to see this. I went through a lot of Kleenex.

Elmer, I am one of those people who love snowy and cold weather. I used to love going outside after a snowstorm to shovel snow off my sidewalks. With my back I can't do that now unfortunately. I also love being near the water in the winter. I like watching the ice breakers or listening to freighters as they plow through the ice. Love the sound of the ice breaking up. Some of the most beautiful winter scenery is at Point Pelee as the ice from Lake Erie is pushed up along the shoreline. Summers can be horrendous with the humidity but we get used to it. My cousin who moved here 2 years ago from Toronto can't stand the humidity. Along with living near the water there comes the yearly migration of fish flies or shad flies. Stinky creatures who live to die. I love having 4 seasons and sometimes we can experience them all in one week.

There is a wonderful lake/golf community on Lake Oconee in Georgia. It is approximately 45 minutes east of Atlanta. It is called Reynolds Plantation. There are also other lake/golf communities as well but RP is the highest quality by far. If you are not golfers, there are other communities which feature lake front living without golf. Water's Edge is an excellent example. Most of the folks living there are from other parts of the country. In fact, many retirees have moved there from Florida...

Try RedTail Mountain in Mountain City, TN. Great Golf, Fly Fishing, Hiking, and no state income tax. If you arent familiar with it is about 20 minutes from Boone, NC.
