Ideas for focal point outside formal dining room window?
Comments (10)Here's a picture I found last night... not a favorite design, but an example. You'd still need a planting (or large potted plants) at either end to soften the wall, imo. A wall will give more privacy (and provide it quicker) than only shrubs. My aunt had a small courtyard, with small pond/fountain, off the breakfast room. It was a lovely little secluded spot and always seemed magical to me (as a kid)....See MoreNeed ideas for camouflaging desk behind couch
Comments (22)We'll do some moving around of stuff this weekend to see what we can come up with. We do have baseboard heating, a pox on interior decorating of any kind! It just really limits where we can place things. To be honest, I have yet to fall in love with this house - I see so many things wrong with the layout, the lack of space and so little funds to update anything so that all we can make are cosmetic changes :( I need to find a way to love it and be happy with it. @robtropolis and @grandmaof3 - I agree - it does look better that way and I do like opening up the living room to the dining area because it has much better flow. We'll try some things and get back to you! btw, the speaker in basket idea - I don't quite understand it - do you put the speakers in an open basket? If you put them in a lidded basket, does it interfere with sound? @melle_sacto - you are right, it is a really long space! If we put the couches where the fireplace area is, I'm not sure where we'd put the tv?...See Moreneed ideas for hanging window treatments
Comments (6)So doesn't anyone think panels would look good? My neighbor thought they would look nice and the Ethan Allen decorator agrees, I was really just hoping someone had some creative ideas as to how I should hang them. I do agree that 4 panels might not look right because of the different size windows. I really don't think the upper windows will be a problem as there is enough wall space separating them. So if you were going to hang to panels, how would you do it? I would love some pictures for inspiration....See MoreNeed ideas to camouflage electric pole.
Comments (14)Ask the utility to bury it. They often want to do it to avoid storm damage so they charge very little. If you cannot bury it, realize that the utility requires permanent easement to access it and it's path through your property. You can not plant anything there that you would not be willing to have destroyed. That doesn't mean that you can't landscape around it. Just that you should probably shop the discount rack at Lowes to do it. Pick shrubs that won't need a lot of maintenance, and hardy perennials that multiply. Look at local gas stations to see what the crews there maintain. That will all be easy care, available, and inexpensive. Save the more personal planting beds for closer to the house....See Morefully2
