Photo request please: backsplash with wood countertops

I would love to see photos of perimeter wood countertops to help me decide what backsplash to use. Ours is oak butcherblock with white cabinets, but I think seeing a backsplash with any kind of wood countertop will help.

Ideas are welcome as well. The white tile at Lowe's is almost an exact color match to our cabinets so I guess that will be the fallback (the price is very nice too), but I am certainly interested in alternatives and have been following the offbeat/vintage backsplash thread.

Oh yes, I may have run across that one before. Thanks, 2LittleFishies! That is definitely an appealing kitchen, and it's got a white range like mine (well, mine is electric but same look).

If budget was a consideration for the Eco Cosentino Iron Ore, it will probably be a factor with a real blue granite. Besides, if you want your bs to stand out, I'd let it be the one strong blue element in the room. I'd like the Blue Volga or Blue Pearl because the blues in those are subtle and won't shout for attention. If you have the blue granite picked first, I'd want a calm bs. If you try to have too many stars in the room, then it gets noisy. We have Corian in their Rain Cloud pattern and it has a marble like vibe but it also has some small amount of taupe-ish beige. You would have to see if its soft white works with your cab's paint color. Here is a mellow pic of our counters. There is more color to them IRL but from the distance, they do look like a soft white. I am posting pix of this and linking to another one below to give you an idea of the color range to go with your tiles. You could find the equivalent in stone, but we are happy with the Corian. (try to find the seam.. even blown up big it is well done) I could also see a counter with an orange beige tone in it. That would work with the wood look floor and still pair with your cabs and bs. after a year or so with living without a back splash, we are finally ready - 1890 farm house: soapstone counters, medium quarter sawn oak cabinets, slightly darker wood floor...we are thinking of tumbled stone subway tile (combos of cream, beige, black,etc) - any one have photos of something like this...i like it...dh is not so sure (thinks the slight greenishness of some parts of the soapstone may clash). thanks

I am still in the ABB club but making progress. Our kitchen started out contemporary/modern but ended up transitional. Initially, I really wanted back painted glass but just could not get the glass to talk to the countertop. I did not want subway (reminds me of elementary school or an old hospital - sorry) Tile is Grazia Rixi Crema and the inset is called Beach - from Tile-shop.com (not tileshop.com) This is the tile and inset we are going to order - working on shipping arrangements as has to go to a business or the shipping costs as much as the tile!! Plan on one layer of 5x5, then the inset, and then diagonal above. These are all different color tiles as I only have one sample of the color. I might put a few small medallions above the cooktop (see Chitown - not sure she posted) L-shaped section of the kitchen (there bake zone is on the opposite side) but might give you an idea of at the style.

So this is how you start. You Google (or Houzz) "cherry cabinets black counters wood floors" and chose image results, then you flip through images that have a look that you like, save the ones you do like, and see what bs tile they used. Here's an image I liked from that exact search, and they've used a tile that looks very much like what I would have recommended to you anyway, a large format, elongated glazed tile in a light neutral shade. In fact, I love the glazed thin brick tile from Fireclay tile, shown below in Cotton. But the point is, find a look you like with the materials choices you have, then look at tiles that will give you that look.

When I think of wood perimeter counters, two absolutely stunning kitchens immediately spring to mind. Pirula's, shown second to last above by Jessica, and Carrie Eileen's. I'll link CE's below. She also used beadboard. I drool....

Jessica and breezy, those are beautiful kitchens, thanks for posting! I notice that they all have white cabinets and white backsplash. I really like the curved countertop that follows the curved shelves in your first photo, Jessica.

Yes, it does look like wood counters are paired with white backsplashes. I was only able to find one non-white bs:

I thought this was really cute:

I will be doing a white and yellow (onyx) mosaic with maple counters, but it's not in yet, so it's hard to get a real sense of how it looks.

jessicaml. I love the picture you posted with the grey base cabs. I like how the top curvy part over the sink melds to the adjacent cabs. I've got one of those things over the sink that I wanted to keep, but wasn't sure. Now I'm sure. Thanks for the inspiration.
