I heard on another board on the 6th that Betty the Villages husband passed away.

Our hugs go out to her.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Betty, my heartfelt sympaties go out to you for your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one, even when it is expected. I hope you will continue to post on this forum.

For those of you who have lost a spouse to any kind of cancer, there is a forum group called FACING AHEAD which I have found helpful, in addition to participating in a grief therapy group, reading numerous books about how to deal with the loss of a loved one, etc., staying busy, etc. Yes, it is terribly hard and I 'wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy' - but there it is and I know he would want me to go on living and not 'fall apart' s0 that is what I am trying very hard to do. I keep a sort of journal which is basically written specifically to him just telling him what is going on around me. He was my soul mate and just the right person to come along in my life at the time (we would have been married 29 years next week). I don't understand why I couldn't have had him in my life longer but maybe it is not for me to 'understand' but to simply 'accept' that part of my life is complete and it is time for me to move on, even though I don't want to move on without him. I know how much the gun means to him because my hubby was given his grandfather's gun from his dad. He would not part with this gun. Plus my hubby just bought his dad's tractor that he purchased in 1955. My hubby remembers the day his dad bought it. Wonderful memories for our fellas!!

Dianepa...I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure that while you are at ease that he is not suffering you still wish he was with you. I'm newly married and can not imagine how it would feel to lose my husband. I'll keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers.

This broke my heart and made me smile at the same time. Betty was made an honorary forest ranger over a decade ago. When she was a girl, she wanted to be a ranger but women were not allowed to do so then. She truly was a national treasure. What a lovely life she lived.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I hope that some family members or close friends can spend time with you for a while - it helps a lot not to be alone.

When (step-)Mom died, I spent a week with Dad (whom I hadn't seen a lot, as he lived far away).

He was battling a cold at the time.

Actually, he spent quite a bit of time each day reading a book. Which he loved to do.

Actually, often people at the visitation in the funeral home tell a number of stories about things that the loved one did - especially happy, often funny, things. So that the gathering often becomes something of a celebration of the person's life.

You can be thankful for so many years that you had, together.
