Craftsman Garage Door Opener Poor Sensitivity to Remote

I would be most grateful for any assistance you can render with the following matter. Sometimes my opener responds to my remote all the way from the end of the driveway, but sometimes I need to be closer. Worst case is in the garage itself. The condition comes and goes, and varies over time. I have two brand new compatible Chamberlain Liftmaster remotes with new batteries in each. Both perform similarly. I am guessing that there is an intermittant bad connection to the RF receiver portion of the opener, or even its power supply. For repairs, I might need to know the Chamberlain equivalent of the sears model, which is 139.53800SRT1 --- 1/2 Horsepower. Can you suggest the most likely cause of the problem, and how I might find a source of the correct replacement parts, if needed, and what the Chamberlain equivalent would be for the Sears model? Many thanks in advance for this assistance.

The fact that both your remotes are doing it points to the receiver. It is built into the board that all those white wires connect to. and has the small gray wire hanging down which is the antenna. You can pull that board and check for loose connections but it may also be an intermittent component. You will find the part number right on that board. It starts with 41A and has several more digits. It is a number that is good with Chamberlain or Sears. It is called a logic board and controls just about everything on that opener.

I know this is an older thread now but this is frustrating. I have two garage doors with Craftsman 1/2HP 41A5021-2F Red button type. Both are now messed up and will only program one opener. I reset and can program any one of the 4 remotes (only one button) to the door but will not learn anymore. Reset again and i can program another but I CANNOT program more than 1 button of 1 remote to a door. Prior to this i had 4 three button remotes and each door had a key pad entry system. I am now up the creek without a paddle! I have even unplugged the units for hours and still the same behavior!!!

My wife's remote for the garage door that she uses had gotten quite unreliable. Testing the battery showed that it was like new for voltage output. So the battery and contacts were buffed with a rough cloth ( don't use sandpaper or anything that will damage the plating) and now it works perfectly.

You can replace the logic board, if that's the problem, or work around the whole thing. (And get your $$ back [return] the new useless remote) Google: Skylink GBRM You can get one from Amazon, or closer to home, radio shack may still carry these, sometimes with an outside keypad remote as well. Lots cheaper than a logic board, remote is probably smaller too. What it does is go in parallel with (or replaces) your current wall button, and sends the opener the right signal to open/close down the original copper wires. --No ladders, No taking apart opener, only mickey-mouse work with screwdriver at original inside control button.
