Love the top quilt and way to go with all that hand-quilting! I hope you're proud of your quilt!

You can go either way, border-wise on the paws quilt. If it needs to be bigger, another border will be fine, but I don't think that it needs one in terms of design. And, yes, I think black binding would be cool. As far as the thread showing here are a couple of hints:

1) Get a black, permanent, archival pen (quilt shops have them, otherwise try the scrapbooking section at Walmart, Michaels, Hobby Lobby...) and color over the white threads. Voila! All gone!

2) Was this block paper-pieced? If so, see if you can find a lighter-weight paper next time you use this technique. One of the hazards with paper- piecing is that the seams end up a bit loose after the paper is removed from them, resulting in a tendency for the threads to show, as you discovered.

3) If the block wasn't paper-pieced, check the tension on your machine because it's too loose. When tension is properly adjusted, you should be able to sew with any color thread and not have it show in the seams. I use tan thread for almost all of my piecing, but I'm fussy, fussy, fussy about tension and never have this problem. Tightening your tension a bit when paper-piecing might help some, too.

I don't think I did paper piecing(I don't know what it is) I used a ruler and cut the pieces out. I think it was the tension like you said, my sewing machine was all crazy and wouldn't sew write and when I tried adjusting the tension. I have another one now and it works great.

I'm glad you got the problem solved on your own--that's such a satisfying feeling. And the marker idea is one I got from some of the best quilters in the country--believe me, we've all been there and done that!

I love the colors in the first quilt, and the paw-print one is adorable. What a lot of work went into those prints! As for the binding, I would probably go with a couple of narrow borders in the pink and lavender and then have a narrow black binding on the edges.

I think they are great. I would never believe they are your first. Don't worry about imperfections, some of my favorite quilts are full of them. That just means they were made by hand with lots of love.

Blue and green is my absolute favorite color combo and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE that top!!!!!!!!! You say it has flaws but I sure dont'e see them. Well done, bravo!

Love the paws too -- I was going to say exactly what annie said -- just get a black fabric pen and color over them. (I think the archival quality has something to do w/ the ph balance not being acidic so it won't deterioriate the fabric over time, something like that. But any hobby store should carry them.)

Your quilts are great! The paw prints are just too cute! As for your little imperfections usually you are the only one that notices them. You know they are there but everyone else is usually just so blown away by the beauty of the quilts that they don't notice. I once had a quilt teacher that told me that only machines can do perfect work. It is the little imperfections that show that something is handmade. Keep up the good work.
