Built in paper towel holder in cabinet... anyone have one?

I saw this in a kitchen idea book and loved it. Because my sink will be on the peninsula, I really didn't want to have a vertical paper towel holder sitting on the counter. Instead, the idea I got from this kitchen design book was to build it in, in the place of a drawer right under the countertop. Has anyone ever done this? I'm needing to know what dimensions to have to cabinet maker build, and where could I the hardware to hold the dowel? Any ideas? TIA!

at least 1 person here did that - maybe they'll see your question and post a pic. it was just a space left open - instead of putting in a drawer. your cabinet maker should know what hardware is needed to hold it.
I'd suppose it needs to be just a bit wider than a paper towel roll is long. and deep enough for the big fat rolls if you use those.

firsthouse_mp has done that. She has posted pics recently, I think in the thread about what to do with the dishtowels. Maybe she'll see this one and repost.

About the recessed paper towel holder that pepper posted a picture of: I'd say the cabinet is 16" - 18", probably 18", if it's a standard size. A paper towel roll is 11" long, there's probably 1" to 2" of space on each side of it in the recess, and the stiles of the cabinet look like they're about 1 3/4" to 2" wide each. I saw something like it in a kitchen magazine recently and I liked it too. The cabinets in the picture Pepper posted (try saying that 3 times fast) are beautiful! I'd like to paint a finish like that on my cabinets -- I have to figure out how.

Julia - Just a tip - If you try to search on GW for something like "where to put the paper towels," it doesn't always ( or ever) work. Try going on google or bing and search for "gardenweb where to put the paper towels" and a whole list will come up. You don't need it now because laughable gave you a great link, but for any future searches, it's the way to go. I can't even find my own posts if I use the GW search. Try it for something like " gardenweb where to keep the onions". You'll be amazed. And you'll get great ideas for where to keep the onions.

I never thought I could get this excited about a paper towel holder, but I have! We needed a new one also after our remodel and I looked at many. The one we installed is SO easy to use, looks great and the paper towels don't unroll onto my counter. When guests come into my new kitchen, the paper towel holder is on "the tour"...it's that great. It's from Simple Human and we bought it at BB&B. It says it is a wall mount, but it can also be mounted under the cabinet which is how we have it installed. I saw your post on the other thread. If she doesn't respond, her e-mail is activated so you could send her a direct question. Things move so fast on here that sometimes three pages can go by in half a day, so she may not see it before it fall to another page.
