@rr4580 Mine is a full size trash pull-out, 13 gallon can, with paper towel above. The opening for the towel holder is 5.5 x 12. The problem I found is that paper towel rolls have grown in diameter since 2011, so they no longer will go in my holder until they have been partly used. But my holder was very rudimentary, it's one of those metal springy paper towel holders, installed sideways in a recess that would have been a drawer. A better design like firstmmo's could allow a modern roll. There are about two inches from the top of the garbage can to the top of the pull out cabinet face, so you could definitely get another inch there if you are doing custom cabinets.

We have a shallow, tiled open cabinet, to the right of our prep area on the island. Bottom half is used to store cutting boards. We've since added trim pieces at top and bottom to hide the tile line.

I like my brushed stainless Martha Stewart portable paper towel holder that I just got a few weeks ago. After going without one for so many years, I really appreciate having somewhere to put my PT, and I think it looks inconspicuous on the counter. I decided against putting a holder inside a cabinet because I sometimes have wet hands when I reach for one.

Looks like the bolt that holds the bracket to the wall has broken. Likely it was installed with the hardware that came with the fixtures. A lot of that supplied hardware is cheap brittle crap. Use some needle nose vise grips to clamp onto the remanent of the bolt, unthread it and go to the hardware store and get new bolts. Yes, non-standard installation. Normally installed with two bolts/ screws. If the single new bolt doesn't hold up, then I would drill two holes and mount it properly. You'll need a specialty drill bit for drilling through tile.
