What color to go with this red?

My inspiration photo:

We've basically decided to do the rest of the house in cooler, lighter colors (light turquoise) but I have always loved this look and it would suit the furniture we have for the living room. It's the only living space that is actually more separate from the rest of the house (open floor plan).

These are photos from our x-home in San Diego:

- the red couch, coffee tables & wood bench moved with us

- just the piano & the painting above it

This is the current living room (photographed w/previous owners furniture) which has the furniture pieces from our previous home:

Would you do all 4 walls in red or pair it a neutral? I used Valspar Antique Red in our dining room at a previous house and really loved the color - it was like cordovan leather.

The hallway will be in a gray of some tone. Up until DH and I agreed to go with this warmer palette in the living room, we were going to do BM Glass Slipper in the hallway. Not sure that's the way to go with this change.

I think I would do all red, but I am concerned about the couch disappearing. The inspiration has a lot of pattern to stand up to the strong wall color.

As usual, you make a good point, palimpsest.

Up until about 2 hrs ago when I came across that photo again, we'd been talking about going with a dark blue like BM Midnight Navy:

I once saw a model house in San Diego (Spanish style) with a library done in 4 midnight blue walls. I've talked about that room for years. I thought that by choosing a blue, I could better tie it in to the Glass Slipper and turquoise colors I'm doing towards the back of the house (hah - sounds like the house is huge but it's barely 2100sf).

Thinking of patterns like this to brighten the couch up:

I'd either stain it a medium to dark brown, to contrast with the red brick, or paint it white to match the house and window trim. I wouldn't try to make it match the brick. In choosing brown or white, you should take into account not just your preference in aesthetics, but the fact that dark will be warmer on bare feet while white will be more reflective of sunlight. Depending on what side of the house the deck is on and how much shade there is, you might not want hot feet or too much reflection. You might also try posting this in the Home Decorating forum. They're good with color advice.

Hi there- I would recommend a rug in shades of deep hues of blues, reds, and greys. Neutrals or metallics would also pair well with your bold couches and floors. These would work, in my opinion. Suggestions for with paint colors? She needs some curb appeal.

Cleaning it up by power washing the porch and any other areas that need and can withstand it would be a good start. Could add some contrast by using two different colors for the trim and columns. I think removing the iron in favor of a stair railing more in line with the porch railing and columns would work wonders as well. If it's in the budget getting a new rich wood door would be very pretty as well.
