It is so nice to hear from someone who realized the importance of good lighting.

Unless there is something mechanically wrong with the ceiling fan, I would keep it. Otherwise, I would replace it with another fan/ceiling fixture, but have the bulbs covered or pointed up (down facing bulbs are too harsh).

If there is just the one shared bedside table, I would look for a double gooseneck lamp that could be shared. But the table is small, so maybe two reading lights that hang on the wall would be better. I would add a torchiere in the corner.

On the whole, I really like your guest room.
When it comes to reading lamps, though, I'm totally hardcore ;~D.
I want ~ I NEED~ good, proper-sized, 3-way reading lamps for each person. Although I like your present lamp, I agree with Graywings, that dual, wall-hung lamps would be better. I've always disliked lights on fans. As GW's has already mentioned, they tend to cast a harsh light in the room at night. I do like your ceiling fan and think you should keep it or another similar one. Love your beds, too!

Swing wall lamps would serve you best in a dark tone to pick up the tones in the bed. I saw a nice one on HomeDecorators.com and then go to clearance on right. They were marked way down.

Ideas for a shade or ditch this lamp for a torche? This is a pic I took before putting anything on the table. I'm still thinking about a few books, lighting...

I'm on my way to the link yaya gave me. I knew you all would come through. Wall lighting seems to be the consenses. Is that the way I should to go in this bedroom? I do have this wonderful little beauty that could be put between the beds if this would work?

I would keep that lamp and add a torchiere! Can't help you with shades, I have to see them together.

I think the bedding is fine for a guest room. Or wait until you see something you just love go on sale - maybe something with a big pattern on it that you would tire of in your own bedroom. A guest bedroom is somewhere you can go a little crazy, IMO.

As for finishing the room, think about more artwork for the walls. Maybe paint the ceiling blue? Just throwing out an idea . . .

Since you are buying a new ceiling fan.... I put remote control fans with light kits in my kids' rooms about 4 years ago. They have been wonderful! In the middle of the night they can adjust the fan up or down without getting out of bed. They were not at all expensive -I got them from Home Depot.

I love that last lamp and will take it off you hands any day!

For a fan, I would suggest something in white that would blend in with the ceiling. They're usually not fashion statements and, IMO, the less obtrusive the better.

The one I have linked shouldn't be glaring and doesn't have the multiple lights.

Do you have a pic that shows the wall the bed is on, so we can get a better idea of the room available?

That looks like the same fans we have -and what's nice is that the light is dimmable from the remote, so your guests can truly have just the right amount of light and breeze.
