Overwintering Mophead Hydrangeas....ES again
Comments (15)Brendave - my personal opinion is don't even bother overwintering. What is the point? E.S. blooms on new wood. I have mentioned in other posts that I did an experiment last season - winter protected some E.S., did not winter protect others. The verdict? The *unprotected* E.S did better in terms of bush growth than the winter protected ones. They took a bit longer to get up and running, they died to the ground, but once they started growing - look out! In contrast, the winter protected ones did not die to the ground, and the leaf growth that came out got nipped by cold weather, and that set the plants back. They still bloomed, and I'd peg blooming about the same number of blooms, give or take a few. So why bother winter protecting when you have a plant that *does* produce plenty of new blooms on new wood? My opinion is - and I'm sorry if I ruffle some feathers here, but I've said it in other posts and it bears repeating - some folks are disappointed in their Endless Summer because they are expecting instant results. Bushes - any bush - take time to get established and reach full size and full blooming potential. BE PATIENT!!! You all will be rewarded when you Endless Summers get established. Keep in mind the rule of thumb for bush establishment is three years. Some may establish sooner, of course, perhaps after two full seasons in teh ground. Don't expect jaw-dropping displays before three full seasons in the ground. And, hey, if you do get the displays that everyone oooohs and aahhhs over before then, well, then - enjoy! :)...See MoreOpinion, please!
Comments (11)I chickened out and only bought 2, but I'm still strongly thinking about the other 2. I bought the glowing embers and the harlequin. I'm super excited to get them both, but unsure if I should grow them under lights over the winter or keep them protected outside. When I get them I'll take pictures. I hope that's easy to figure out. Msalcido, I buy plants all the time without knowing precisely where they got...however, we have so many open spots that it's not too hard to figure something out...the hard part is finding the time to plant and care for them...why don't kids nap 2x a day for years. It would make ins so much easier!...See MoreSlipcover question.
Comments (2)Someone should call me the slipcover poster. I love the darn things and yesterday received my latest on sale from Ballard designs. It is everything hoped for. Is for a chaise (not theirs), fits great and even included 2 throw pillow covers. All with zippers, piping, lined drops. The designs at Todo Es look well made and start price a good one. Have you put together a checklist using their site to see what the final cost would be? I'm not sure how they make slipcovers without the furniture in front of them. When I order mine I look for size/style and add an inch to the width/length. This has worked well and gives some shrinkage for washing. My personal take is that slipcover material should be washable and check on the fabric care instructions. For me, having to dry clean a slip cover seems to defeat the purpose. The other side though is using them to change decorating colors/style/pattern. Also check on the weight of fabric used. You can tell how sturdy it is by the shipping weight if not having a sample....See More*Drum Roll*: New Karastans Have Arrived!
Comments (72)Not that I'm an expert, but I really like that rug in your living room. All of the colors in the rug really accentuate the "calm" of your furniture. I don't know if I'm saying that right...but the rug is a stand out and it reminds me of a room that a designer would put together. Keeping the furniture monochromatic and then putting the one piece in that makes you say "aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh, so that's how you do it." I could sit, chat, and drink wine all night in there! I also noticed that your new little one is attached to your Bichon. So sweet. We adopted a 3 yr old German Shepherd from the pound a few years ago and she is best friends with our shep/retriever mix. Well, after an awkward alpha issue about six months in to it. That resolved fairly quickly, thank goodness. I know that he helped her assimilate into our family...after a year she finally stopped trying to jump into the back of every truck we passed!...See Moreles917
