nyc renovation - plans with dept. of buildings

I have begin getting bids from gcs on my proposed renovation of my small bathroom and kitchen in a 1br coop apartment. I want to open up the kitchen by removing two non-load bearing walls. If I don't plan on moving any of the plumbing, do I need to file plans and get permits from NYC Dept. of Buildings? I've been on their website, but have been unable to find the relevant information. My co-op alteration agreement states that I must file plans and get permits when required.

Essentially, I'm asking when do you need to file plans with the city and get permits?
