DS went deep sea fishing with friends this weekend.

Here's a pic of him with his red snapper!

Red snapper is my favorite of all fish to eat! Love Greek Baked Snapper from Loui's!

Mosquito eating fish?

NeveDunnRanch, I live in Az too..but I live on the east side Miami/Globe area,..if your temperature drops to freezing at any point, your fish freeze too! We do get snow here for only about 2 weeks... but everywhere around us has snow longer!..still the temperatures stay below freezing...until spring.you would have to figure out how to heat your water tanks for the fish to survive, most mosquito fish do not live more than a year maybe year and a half in slightly warmer conditions only indoors do they last approximately 3 years, guppies last a very long time indoors but they do breed like rabbits, and most other mosquito fish, will breed every 45 days or so, I myself own livestock and have to keep other water loving predators out that want to eat eggs or fish, for livestock I have to hook up a warm water line to have for my livestock...but I ended up having to catch the fish and bring them in for the winter..which prolongs the survival rate on the fish and I don't have to buy new! There are no mosquitoes during winter..and I know it's easier to keep them in the water, but they won't last! THEY are NOT an indigenous species so by law in Arizona you cannot dump them in any lakes or rivers or anything other than what is acceptable to Arizona fish and game guidelines! there's only two places to get them and Arizona fish and game will guide you to where you need to go but most of the people that have them for their pawns, Arizona fish and game take certain information from you..before you can get them..Arizona puts them out in the water canals or flood zone areas of watering farmland and where livestock drink but if we are caught putting them in lakes and river beds stuff like, it's a BIG fine the fish populate so fast they will kill out our own natural indigenous species so Arizona fish and game take all the information down to pick them up if you bring a container you can bring home as many as you can carry in that container there's another person that has them she sells them and I believe she takes the information to and Arizona fishing game will direct you to her too if need be depending on where you're at on the map! You can contact me for more info by my e-mail margaretmr2014@gmail.com..I work for the local FD..and a lawfirm in Phoenix, so I keep up with most fish&game regulations....and try to help as much as I can. MOST IMPORTANTLY....MOST IMPORTANTLY...IF YOU LIVE IN A MOUNTAIN TERRAIN..You will have to stop on your way up back home BECAUSE every so many feet up/miles up..the elevation changes and the pressure becomes harder on the fish and their bladders will burst and you will have dead fish on your way home not many will survive so you have to stop every 10 minutes and weight about half an hour 45 minutes and then travel 10 more minutes and wait another 45 minutes so their bladders do not pop otherwise you wasted time and or money! and another thing the fish will eat the babies the parents will eat the babies if they are confined together in a tight spot so you want to try and separate the babies to keep them safe if you want to make sure you have enough and not buy anymore I have 1 male to three females and I have more than enough babies and I'm going to start selling them now because they do have about 60 babies each time! Good luck...have fun...

Fish Eating Parrots Feather Roots?

Joraines, Sorry about the fish that are making their way into your pond, mabey some kind of a net to stop them? Where the creek runs through your pond? There must be some kind of a net, or even weed cloth or something even a leaf net to stop the fish from entering. How to anchor it is another thing. Nice to hear from you, I've been keeping up with your pond stories, it's nice to hear someone from our state speak about their pond. There is a fine to own water hyacinth in South Carolina, but not water lettuce as far as I know. I don't know what Parrot feather is, it sounds nice, hope you can grow it out a bit in another baby pool so you still have it for the rest of the year, it'll probably last here til at least the beginning of November. I think all the rain lately is the culprit of the algae, although thankfully my pond is finally starting to clear a bit now since the rain has stopped, (now I jinxed myself), I have never seen this much rain. Good luck with your pond and hope you figure something out as to keeping the fish out.

My betta fish will not eat he just stays at the top of the water!

chels19, don't listen to some idiot who advises you to callously flush your fish away. It seems you're doing something right with your betta. In fact, I recently purchased some Blackwater Extract for my betta. It will discolor the water (dosage is 1/2 tsp. to 2 gallons of water) but it contains peat that lowers the pH and adds vitamins. Please check your water's pH, and for nitrates and nitrites, hardness, etc. Take a sample to your nearest pet store, they should be able to test your water and make proper recommendations. I'm glad your betta is doing better. TammyPie

Do you eat fish?

This is something I wish I could change about myself. I do not eat fish, or shellfish. I continue to try little bits of it when it is offered. It's not so disgusting to me that I can't eat a couple bites, but it's bad enough that I can't continue eating it. Like the first bite is OK, but it gets bad after 3 bites. LOL. But I don't cook it, so my kids don't eat it either. I know it's good for me, and I feel that I miss out on a lot of tasty and nutritious meals, and fun restaurants, because I don't eat it. If I could re-train my taste buds to eat it, I would. Every once in a while I get a bug in my head to search for mild fish recipes, but lose my nerve and don't commit to buying it at the grocery. DH is even pickier than me or the kids, so he is fine with me never cooking fish. My dad is the perfect eater. I wish I learned/inherited my tastes from him rather than my mom. My dad will eat ANYTHING. I know there are a couple foods he doesn't favor, but nothing he refuses to eat. I swear, this is the truth, I have seen him eat an entire meal at a restaurant and then announce it was delicious, but not at all what he ordered. Even when he gets the wrong meal at a restaurant, he just says "great, a surprise, let's try it." He is thin, strong and healthy and looks 15 years younger than his age.

In my opinion, most freshwater fish are the strongest (fishier) in flavor. I never even became a big fish fan until I moved to a the Atlantic coast. My first meal of fresh caught red and pink snapper is something I still remember! All we did was fllet them, brush with butter, and put the grill.

Snapper is sweet and buttery on its own....I covet those fish, Glenda.

We eat fish three or more times a week, grilled, planked, broiled, fried...it never gets old. Salmon, flounder, catfish, cod, tuna, etc.

We love nearly all fish, but red snapper and halibut are our favorites. We always prepare them simply and always have homemade tartar sauce with them.

Red snapper is one of the few fish I like....because they do not have a strong flavor. We eat mostly freshwater catfish, but this winter my husband fished quite a bit here in the bayou and caught redfish and speckled trout. I will eat them, but they aren't my favorite. My favorites are bass and crappie. I will also eat flounder off the boat when he catches them. I am not a big fan of fish unless it is fine grained, and non fishy tasting.

Ditto on the homemade tartar sauce, Walnut creek. I keep it on hand all the time. When I don't have seafood, I like to use it as a sandwich spread.

I'll eat any fish as long as it's fresh. I'm with Marie on the walleye. Land, that is one great tasting fish. Trout caught fresh in the Georgia mountains should be considered a gourmet meal. Haven't had red fish for years because of the size restrictions. Cod, halibut--it's all good!

If anyone would like Countrysunshine's recipe for tartar sauce I'd be happy to post it. It's the best I've ever tasted.

I love seafood. I am fond of several types of fish, red snapper was one I started on young, my uncle took his boat out all the time and his main catch was red snapper. Love tilapia, good fresh catfish, Mahi Mahi, monk, cod, I have never had walleye but would love to try it. I like good white fish no fishy taste. lf it's seafood I probably like it. I will not be eating sushi or caviar.

Really beautiful catch, that would make a few meals. I bet he was excited.

I've developed a tasted for tartar sauce with horseradish. Jubilee Joe's a cajun fish restaurant serves it with their fried oysters. Their's does not have pickles in it.

Tartar sauce with horseradish
1 cup mayonnaise
2 to 2 1/2 Tablespoons sweet pickle relish -- **I prefer dill and less is better for me
1 tsp. or more horseradish.

We eat seafood often, mostly fresh, I only occasionally buy it frozen or freeze it...which just about eliminates scallops which I like because they aren't caught around here :)

Salmon, halibut (cold water fish), shrimp, crab, clams, oysters. Lotsa clams, lotsa crab, easiest to come by for us...

DH is a little more adventuresome, he likes octopus, and squid. But cooked the way his dad often cooked them, as with a lot of others things from his kitchen, stewed with tomato and garlic. Can we say chewy?

Never sushi, never oysters shooters - I like my food cooked. I don't even like seared tuna where its rare in the center - Arghhhh. Guess I've handled too much raw (preparing to can) to want to eat it rare :)

Glenda, clicked submit too quickly. I'd meant to say too that you have a very nice looking son and I hope he had a wonderful day on the ocean - it's one of my favorite places to be but as I get older I don't seem to have the same stamina for too many consecutive long ocean days )
