I have a question about a tent killing grass....

Last Summer we set up a tent in our backyard. We kept it up for almost 2 weeks and slept out there every night. We all had a blast - Claude would get up in the morning, head in to the house to get ready for work, and deliver a cup of coffee before heading out. The kids and I would laze a bit and then play in the yard before going in for breakfast. It was a really fun time for all of us, and free camping!

BUT, it completely killed the grass under the tent. It didn't matter much because the yard was not well maintained - more like a wild park, so it wasn't a big deal. Now we're in a different house with a nicely manicured lawn. We're wanting to do the same thing for a couple of weeks this year, but don't want to damage the grass. My question is, if we move the tent daily to a different part of the yard, will the grass still die? I'd say the lawn is big enough to put the tent in 3 or 4 different spots (it's a BIG tent), so a particular spot would be covered for a day and then uncovered for 2 or 3 days before being covered again. What exactly is it that kills the grass under the tent - no exposure to sunlight?

What do you think?

Thanks for any input!
