90% complete hall bathroom

So the hall bathroom is 90% done... still need the trim for the half wall cap... need to replace the vanity light,still need the mirror over the vanity. and some other odds and ends. But I figured I would post it so far. I am really pleased. As you can see I went with yosemite sand. It does look overwhelmingly beige/tan, but I like it with touches of white, and there will be less overwhelming when the mirror is up . I am very pleased. I dont have before pix, but aside from being mauve tile and mauve formica, it was in very bad shape. Very bad shape. So this is heavenly.

I am "auditioning" the pale green blue little touches on the countertop as I do want some accent colors. I had originally thought of turqoise but it seems a little too strong. (maybe it was that particular shade)

what do you think ?

Obviously I need photography pointers. I didn't realize how blurry some of the photos were-but I think you can still get a pretty good idea.
Also I should add that this is the "kids" bathroom. I will post photos shortly of our master bathroom in progress. (way less progress than this one..)

It looks wonderful. I like that little bit of pale blue, it complements the wall color. I would use some accent towels in that color too. I look forward to your finished photos....NICE JOB!!!

The light fixtures came from Bellacore. One was in stock and arrived right away, the other took about 3 months (!) but customer service was good and kept me informed about the delay. The mirror supplier measured the wall where the lights were to go and cut a round hole for each light. The electrician simply attached it to the wall through the hole. You can see the hole in the picture I have posted to the gallery, and I've just updated with a last picture of the 2 lights installed. Here is a link that might be useful: 3-light vanity.

Nigelsgarden, The only reason the old finish has to come off is because it's not original. The tub has already been re-done once. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out, Live Wire Oak, I take your point, believe me. But while replacing the tub would be sensible, it would be neither cheap, nor easy. It won't fit through the bathroom doorway, and will have to be broken up with a sledge hammer, and the shards and pieces carried downstairs, over newly refinished hardwood floors, out to a rented dumpster on the street. Then the surround would have to be re-tiled (and even the ceiling's tiled). Then the tile floor would have to go because the tub's an odd shape, and the flooring tile goes under a working radiator (also cast iron) and continues part way up the wall. Trust me, adding up the 'cheap fixes' will amount to a fraction of the cost of gutting everything. This is Pandora's bathroom...

In this house my powder has tile floor. In my last house I continued the wood. They both work for different reasons. In this house the powder is to the side of the hallway so a change in floor isn’t jarring to the eye. In the last house, the powder was at the end of the hall so I kept the wood floor the same all the way through to make the space feel bigger.

Those are my colors so of course I like it! I woudln't have thought of blue but it works. Maybe I'd better try some new to me colors next time.

Are your floor tiles porcelain? How big are they?
Neat job laid on the diagonal like that. You sure gave your kids good space at the vanity. Will you have flat mirrors above each sink and a surface mounted shelving unit in between? The mirrors can be raised as the kids grow up, and the shelves would be more timeless than a medicine cab.

Very neat execution of a durable basic room. I like your choice of color, and also the undermount sinks. It should be a dream to clean.

I think it's a lovely basic bathroom for the kids (I'd love it!). you can add color in towels, art work etc. and change it from time to time if you want.

I love the tile too!

I'm really pleased with how it is coming out. We are reusing the big mirror that was there- trimming it somewhat and framing it with molding trim that matches teh vanity.
The light (funny how I didn't photograph it - subconscious I guess?) that they put up is the kichler telford which is a lovely light, but I don't love it, and decided it really wasnt working. I suspect that with everything (like the mirror) in place, it wouldn't be so glaringly irritating to me. in any case, I ordered this one I am linking-- in chrome which hopefully gets here shortly ... it was the masterbath that I drove you all crazy with lighting.I am still tweaking what I should do with the accent colors. I love the white towels and shower curtain - but will introduce more touches of the aqua/green/blue.Also I know I will try to find something else to put on the walls. ... I am thinking about those train shelves(is that the word?) that are chrome and you can stack towels on... a nice clean way to have color.
My kids are grown and not really at home though one is now temporarily... I think the appeal of this room is that it is very adaptable age wise and genderwise.
The tiles are ceramic, they are 12 inches. Dal Brixton in mushroom.Very moderately priced.

Very nice! I think the aqua is pretty, but perhaps not strong enough to balance all the golden warm tones. Any chance you would consider a little stronger blue, like a robinÂs egg?

I think this fabric might be a perfect choice for making a shower curtain (and being able to get something a bit longer than standard for a drapery look), and then pull what seems to be the robinÂs egg blue out in your towels and accessories:

Les you always have such stellar out of the box ideas!

I love that fabric-and will definitely look for a stronger blue like you suggested. I think the ones I found at first were just too strong, and then these now aer probably just a little too subdued...
but I think I am going to keep it on the simple side as we are really looking more for resale(within the next 2 years or so) and I think this bathroom is reallly a kid's bathroom.
