I have seen that problem on all of these units. And your guy is right. You have to push the (left) door in or it would not close by itself. There is a plastic rotating hinge that is lubricated to make it easier to close. But in every unit I have played with, they will often not self close. This is the reason we are avoiding these units in our next purchase. I think the only one that got it right is the new Subzero ($12-$15K unit). All the rest use this plastic rotating piece to cover the gap between the two doors (without it, they would hit each other given the large depth of the door frame). Just go to a showroom and play with the others and you see that they all have the same problem more or less. If the lubricant is wiped off from yours, adding it may make the problem less severe.

We have a brand new KA (we just finished out house in Dec). It closes fine. I just went out and rechecked and if you bring the doors (either one) to the 90 degree position; i.e at right angles to its normal closed position and simply let your hand off of it WITHOUT pushing it closed, it swings closed by itself all the way. Our KA French door has cabinet panels on it. I did find that if I close either door to within 4" of fully closed and let go of them there the left door (with the extra pivoting flange) does not fully close. No problem at all. Jim

+1 . Far to many variables to quote accurately, and furthermore, they price that he or I may quote may be nowhere near what a company in your area might charge ( for better or worse) .... Just for the sake of a relative comparison, I'd order the, as follows : French door or bay window: $3-$5k Sliding door $2k Window $500-$2k depending on size options etc. I'll reiterate that these prices are beyond ballpark, and possibly not even in the same zip code, but at least should give you some ability to decide which options may or may not be worth the expense. I assume that is what you were looking for? ... Also, you did not mention if this will be installed into a new addition, or cut in to an existing wall. That will profoundly affect the price as well. A regular window or sliding door will offer function and value overall. The French door or bay will add more drama at a higher cost. Whether or not that is worth it depends on your personal preference, and the style of your home.

I think grewa002 is comparing sliding doors, the 400 is a step up and there french doors are more. Anderson has many lines of windows, id say some of them such as the A-Series are nicer which can be bought from Home Depot. highly doubt they are selling you a different door than the 400 Frenchwood available from Home Depot.
