My name has nothing to do with sewing, as it is the name of a cat I once had. I used it on the Cacti and Succulents forum first, where it also meant nothing, and I'm using it here. It doesn't bother me that it has nothing to do with sewing, though I appreciate some of the interesting names others have chosen.

If it were me, I wouldn't be concerned. Pirate_Girl is how I got started at GW, probably at Cactus & Succulents & then Houseplants. That's how folks know me now (I've been at GW gardening sites since '01). It certainly has no bearing on sewing or quilting, bothers me not one wit; I rather like such a unique handle. That's why I chose it (also inspired by my having Bell's Palsy, which required me to wear an eye patch for a few months. It was black & some little kid told me I looked like a Pirate.) I tend to be on the 'too serious' side of things & thought it gave me a more playful, sort of whimsical persona, was fun, am glad I've kept it! I am a quilting pirate girl!!!

No need, to change it, it's up to you; only change it if you want to!

I guess it depends on the individual and what certain things stand foror their interest. I just assumed it was related to a 4x4 quilt patch. Maybe if I was a trucker I would have thought of off roading...lol. My name originated from container gardening.

Please don't change your name, Vicky! I did not really know what the 4x4 stood for, but who cares anyway....it was your forum name and we all knew who was posting and that's all that matters. At least your forum name is more creative than mine - nc7 simply indicates what state and zone I'm in.

Isn't it interesting how many of us started out at the gardening forum. My name came from the fact that I love to watch and listen to those brave little chickadees all winter, even when it's -40. 3a is my gardening zone.I vote that you keep your same name, Vicky. I remember pics you posted and that name reminds me of that picture of you and,I think,your daughter.
P.S. I'm hoping to try a 4x4 patch next summer. Have you had success with it?

I haven't been here for a very long time. I like the way you spell Vicky. Same as me. When I first saw 4X4 I thought of patches also. Mine has nothing to do with sewing. So we are in the same club.

Mine is my planting zone too. I tried to change it but couldn't.

Please none of you change your names. I visit this forum everyday, but only post occasionally. I love reading and seeking what everyone is doing (aka lurking). I rarely have anything much to post. We've lost so many. If you change your names it will seem like we've lost more.

I have to admit that when I first saw your "handle," Vicki, I thought it meant you were "into" 4-wheeling. But then I went to your member page and realized that it meant that you were "into" 4-square gardening. Ya know what? I wouldn't change the name. It reminds us all to go visit the 4 Square Gardening forum.

I have heard that it is best to pick a name that is generic enough that it won't become "dated." Not always easy to do. So I just use my real name. Not very imaginative...

Sorry. I spelled Vicky with an "i" even though I spell my own cat's name "Vicky," with a "y." I, too, like it better with a Y.

I use Minnie which is the name of one of my long gone beloved cats.

"Way back in the day" I started with the quilting forum, my name made sense: "Sunny Central FL". Then, the new group took over the BB and uppercase was no longer allowed, so now my name all runs together and makes no sense. I like it anyway.

I had been in a profession where I was known as the Tool Babe. Now retired, I thought Tool Granny more fit my grey hair and lifestyle. No need to ever change it since I have twelve grandkids and counting. And, tools will always be a part of my life. I could have chosen Tool Queen ...hmmm...maybe I should reconsider.

May I make a suggestion here? Your name on this forum is whatever you want it to be. No one has to keep the name they used in the beginning, if they don't like it. I find it difficult to choose a "pen name" when I join a forum. I suspect most people need to stop and think how they want to be known.

I would suggest that you "join" the group again...using the name you prefer. The older name will move on down the page
and into oblivion. You can also add as a signature thatyou are aka "whatever" for a while until people get used to the new name. Unfortunately, there is no way to change our name on our personal information page. Try this! Suit yourself!
