The first set I did myself at age 18 ... numbed by ice/clothespin and then crammed that needle through. OWIE!! It took everything I had to do the second ear.

The second set I went to a professional. MUCH BETTER. LOL!

Yes - two holes in each ear. The first, in my lobes, was done when I was 14, with a needle, ice cubes and a potato - never a drop of trouble with them. The second set was done professionally and I have never been able to wear earrings it those holes - a horrid smell is emitted when I put earrings in!

Double pierced here too. Hardly ever wear earrings though. And DH has bought me some beautiful ones over the years.

Two holes each ear. One was done by a store "pro". It got infected but I kept applying alcohol and it cleared up. That was 35 years ago. Second set I did myself with ice and a needle. Healed up fine. I wear diamond studs in one hole and rotate the other hole. I own about 50 pairs of earrings. All 14 karat as I am allergic to nickel.

1 hole in each ear. Done when I was in my 20s. I did it with a pair of sleepers. Never knew when they actually pierced my ears, just went to push on them a little more and realized they were through my ears.

Wild child back in the dark ages, I was going to do what I was going to do... Did it myself as a 13 year old! This was in 1964,there wasn't anyplace else to get your ears pierced like the shops now. Wow, were my parents furious LOL!

No, I do not have pierced ears. I have a lot of pretty earrings though. Usually wear them when I go someplace, but not around home. My Grandma had pierced ears though, way back when. My Mother doesn't. All 3 of my girls do.

I had mine pierced when I was about 30. I wanted to wear some valuable stones without worrying a clip earring would fall off and get lost. (Remember when you were forever losing one earring or one glove? Dark ages?)

On my 60th. birthday a friend and I were in the mall and there was a kiosk where they were piercing ears. I decided to have mine done for my birthday. The girl had a problem with the second one and redid it right away. That made it a little hard to get the earring in. After that I wore and had many earrings, but now I rarely wear them. The holes are still open and I wore earrings for my DGS's wedding.

This gives me an idea. Maybe I'll box some up for the YS on the 4th.

I have 4 ear piercing holes. Only 1 in 1 ear, the other 3 in the left ear.

I have a high hole in my cartilidge done when I was a Freshman in highschool..it was just starting to get popular.
I keep a hand made small silver hoop in it at all times. Could never wear a stud..I sleep on that side and it always poked me in the head.

In my second hole on the left ear I keep a ruby stud in. I only change out the first matching holes I got for my 9th birthday or don't fill them at all.

Nope, but tried it several times when I was young using the ice cube, candle, potato and needle. Then I tried the gun. Ended up with a cyst on one lobe, small wonder.

The big holes are called gauging. (gauge)

They aren't something I find attractive, but to each their own. Usually those that gauge with the largest are also covered in tatoos and other ornamentation.

Yep! Did my own when I was around 15yrs. old,,with the ice cube/needle method. Years later, I added a 2nd hold (myself) using a stud earring. I also pierced my daughters when she was about 4yrs. old using a stud! For some reason it doesn't hurt as bad using the earring.

AND...not too many people know about it, but last year I had my belly-button pierced! It'd been years since I did anything wild & crazy...so I seized the moment!!!

When I was about 12 my aunt was going to pierce them.Had them numbed with ice ready to go,then my mom came in and I chickened out.LOL When I was about 30 everyone was piercing their ears so I decided to do mine myself.Used the ice,needle cork behind the ear method.Took me about 3 hours to accomplish both ears.Used the old thread through the ear,apply alcohol several times a day and pull the thread back and forth.Ouch! When they finally healed I had a lovely pair of 14ct gold hoops to put in.Had problems from day one.They got infected so after about a month of taking them out and putting them back in I decided to forget the whole thing and stopped wearing the earrings.About 10 years or so passed and one day out of curiosity I put an earring in my ear,just to see if the hole was still there and it went through.Put one in the other ear and it went through with a little pressure on the back.I was very surprised after all the infections that the holes hadn't grown up completely.Of course the earring was 14ct gold and I started having trouble again.It had never occurred to me that I was probably allergic to gold until my cousin suggested it.I started wearing sterling silver or ones with silver posts and have never had a problem since!

Just about everyone in my family has pierced ears.DD's had theirs done when they were in high school.Oldest DD had DGD's pierced when she was 6 months old.The other two GD's have had theirs done since they were very young.Baby Jillian not yet and probably not till she's 20 if daddy has anything to say about it,and I don't know about Rowdy! Who knows,he may try to pierce his own!LOL Oldest DGS has one pierced and 10 year old DGS had one done last summer.Oldest son has one done but rarely wears an earring. The first time, they got infected, and I let them grow back. Then I did it again, with the cotton thread trick and alcohol. Yes, it hurt like the dickens, but I was determined! There was no place to go but the doctor's office to get them officially pierced, or maybe a trusted friend would do it. Anyhow, Mom gave up.

The second piercing was at a department store. No trouble, no infection, and I love wearing two earrings in each ear. Almost always hoops of some sort..I guess the "gypsy" thing was true.

Mom got hers pierced in her sixties. She had tiny earlobes, and couldn't keep the clipons on her ears. She wondered then what all the fuss was about. She loved wearing delicate earrings. I gave her a bunch of mine when I discovered I only really liked hoops.

When she realized she was dying, she gave all of her jewelry to a friend (who died six months later). I would really liked to have had some of those special earrings back, along with some rather spendy ones I gave her and she never wore. Oh well..her friend got some pleasure out of them.

I've had mine pierced since I was a young girl. I don't remember much about it, it was done at Walmart after much begging from my older sister and myself. Mom says my sister made me go first and then she didn't want to do it, b/c I cried, lol! Mom made her do it though. I'm glad, I like them and I don't remember the pain :D (I'm a wimp)

I have 3 in one ear, 4 in the other and cartilage piercings in both. I never wear earrings. My sister did most of mine, with ice, a sewing machine needle and a potato. She did one set and one cartilage with a "gun" that I bought. The "gun" piercings never officially healed. I ripped one of the first holes when I got my earring caught on a pillow case that my Grandma had tatted around the hem of. It is now lower than the other one. Once in awhile I throw a pair or two in. I used to wear Simply Whispers, because they were the only ones that didn't bother my ears.

I wear earrings all my waking hours - pretty much the same ones all the time though I do have a second pair that I wear occasionally. When I was younger I wore different ones all the time - until I grew up and could afford to buy a couple pair of nice ones.

Nahhh! When I was growing up, boys did not do such things and it was a hazard in active sports. A boy with an ear-ring would have been drummed out of the school by the Pincipal. But these days, who konws. Boys do it too.

1) For my 16th Birthday present, my mother takes me to the doctor, who does needle & thread, no ice. First ear a shock so no pain, second, yeeeks!
2) Second during my first major business trip in my late 20's...got bored in a mall excursion and told myself, "why not", so got 2nd set of holes.
3) A few years later on a professional conference trip in my mid-30's...I got bored and in a mall excursion did the deed the third time.

For a while, I considered a 4th piercing on each ear in the upper ear area, but upon informal survey determined that these types of piercings did not heal very well, decided against.

Today:
Top: 1/4 carat diamond 14K gold screwback studs
MIddle: mini huggie-hoops (14K & CZ)
Bottom: whatever suits my fancy -- gold, silver, or otherwise -- but usually a nice pair of 1" diameter tubular-mesh hoops.

I could never have pierced my own! The thought makes my stomach roll over LOL! Mine were done in a shop in 1978! For many years I wore earrings to work every day. Never at night. I was never able to sleep with the little 'bumps' there. Now, I very seldom wear earrings, but I do put them in once in a while. I think that if I had a really nice, classy, small set of gemstones I might wear them more often.

No to pierced ears here. But this week, I wish I had. I am trying to find a pair of dangling earrings for my son's wedding next weekend. Clip earrings are very difficult to find to start with but when you have an idea of what you want that makes it impossible!

To give you an idea: I am a plus size woman so that cannot be too dainty, but then again I am not a "bold" person either. I do not want hoops. I want them to dangle about 2 inches (cant' be much longer because the neckline on the jacket of the dress has a lot of beading and I don't want tangles. They have to be silvertone and could have clear crystals mixed in. I don't want to look like I am putting on the ritz because to me that would look fake because there is no way we could afford anything like that. I just want them to be dressy but not over the top.

So, not that I wanted much, huh? :) When I read this back, it is funny - no wonder I cannot find what I want from the 5-10 pairs that a store might have if they carry clips at all.

Maybe I won't even wear any. The beading on my jacket and a necklace may be it. I am wearing a very special piece of black hills silver for my necklace. It is an angel that I wear each and everyday in memory of our daughter. She will be sooooo missed at the wedding. It will be 6 years this July. On some days it still seems like yesterday - she would be 27. However, she will be in our hearts. She would be so happy for her brother and will be watching from heaven I am sure. (Better quit here before the tears come.)

Yes, doubles in both ears, but only use the bottom holes as the top one of one ear ripped and no earring will stay in. I wear latching gold loops 24/7 that my hubby bought for me.
