Are two ear piercings in each ear lobe out of style?

I see lots of women wearing a stud earring in the top and a hoop/dangle earring in the bottom. What do you think -- is this look old?

Not at all! My wife has 3 lobe piercings in each ear plus right cartilage. I have single piercings in each lobe, and plan on doubles plus cartilage in both ears. Both of us are professionals, although I remove my earrings for client visits. My double earlobe and cartilage piercings will be for our private enjoyment only, while I will wear the single piercings often in public.

I still see many women with the multiple earrings. Personally i think it looks outdated. I took mine out several years ago and left 1 piercing in each ear.

I don't like multiple piercings; seems tacky, junky, cheap, and ugly. But then I'm not a fan of the nose stud either.
Or ankle bracelets...

My ears aren't pierced but I'd like to explain my wifes experience for many years ago. She had her ears pierced in 1974 at which time ear piercing was not very popular, she had been thinking about it for a while and around the time of her 16th birthday, her mum suggested that if she went and had her ears pierced, her mum, would buy her some earrings. That decided it so she went to the local jeweller in Greenford, West of London and had to make an appointment to go back the following week to be pierced, that seems so strange now with ear piercing being immediately available. the man used a device called the Simplicity Ear Piercer which effectively pushed a needle through her lobes and then inserted hinged sleeper hoops into the holes. She had to keep the sleepers in for 6 weeks weeks turning them daily. After 6 weeks she took the sleepers out and tied to get in the earrings her mum had bought her. After half an hour of prodding and poking they would not go in and so she put the sleepers back for another two weeks and went and some some studs instead. Fast forward nearly ten years and I asked her one night if she still had her sleepers - to which she said no as they had broken, but asked me why i liked them particularly. I said because wearing them would make her look like she had just had her ears pierced. No more was said, and we went on holiday a few weeks later, having arrived at the resort she handed me a little brown envelope - and said 'present for you'. Inside was a new pair of hinged sleepers which she immediately let me put in her ears and wore them for the rest of the holiday. Wow. I have asked on a few occasions if she thought about having her ears re-pierced but she always said no, one hole was enough. So I got some spring loaded silver hoops and one night when i put these on her she said she would have another hole done. So far still only the one hole, but she did wear the spring hoops in public the other week and did look so good. Not sure where the earring/piercing fascination comes from as my mum did not have pierced ears and I did not have a sister, but just wanted to share this story

Ah, I get it now that you're to put the earring through the support. That sounds challenging when in a hurry. :) I'll have to see if I can get a small pack to try. Don't want to buy bulk if they're not going to be for me. Natal - I had to google an image of Barbara. I never really looked close at her but she's pretty. I see what you mean about the ears. Lynn - I didn't think I was allergic to anything but I developed a rash after a few times of having my knee taped at physical therapy. I wonder if this stuff is similar. I have a few of those flat backs but my second holes are close and I find they get in the way. I didn't know they made a difference in the weight. Thanks, I'll check it out. Hhireno - LOL I know! Earlier today when I read about chest wrinkles my reactions was,"Oh crap, I need to stop sleeping on my side!" Tina - Really, you never noticed the nose and ears in older people? I never gave it any thought until I heard about it years ago. Now it's just one of those things I notice.

Yes, it Always involves the clitoris; in fact, that is the main purpose of female genital mutilation, aka fgm or circumcision. The clitoris is either completely removed or cut in half; the goal being to deny the woman sexual pleasure. This is the least extreme kind of fgm. In more severe varieties, the inner labia and sometimes the outer labia are also removed. What is left is then sewn together leaving a tiny opening for urination, and the bride is cut open on her wedding night. Supermodel Waris Dirie, from Somalia, has written about her childhood, her own circumcision, and her escape to England and her life afterwards in Desert Flower, which was made into a movie (I found it on Netflix). International activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, also from Somalia, has also written and lectured about this hideous practice. When I was in graduate school an Egyptian feminist came to my university for some lectures, in the early 80s. She also came to our class in Middle Eastern anthropology to speak specifically about fgm. She showed a short documentary, the filming of an actual fgm ceremony in Egypt, outdoors under a tree, outside a peasant village, done by women who were the professional practitioners of this atrocity, on a 12 year-old girl. Just about the most terrible thing I have ever seen. FGM is practiced almost universally in Egypt (including in doctors' offices in Cairo) and wide parts of Africa, and also in small enclaves here and there in the Middle East. I didn't wear earrings until after I married. The hinged ones hurt and I guess I just didn't think about it. My mother's ears weren't pierced and she only wore them when they were going out. I don't think I even wore them when I married. DH gave me a beautiful pair of diamond clip-ons for my 30th birthday but I was afraid that I'd lose them so I had my ears pierced. My jeweler then re-set them in platinum as studs with a screwed back. They felt more secure. Years later he gave me a larger pair and DD was happy to get my old ones. DH enjoys jewelry and has worked with the same jeweler for 35 years, even designing several custom pieces. Over the years I've acquired quite a few pairs and I still have to remind myself to wear them. I usually wear one or 2 rings and often a necklace or simple chain but only occasionally add earrings. During Covid I never wore them since they interfered with the mask. I have diamond studs, small diamond half hoops, South Sea pearls, a variety of gems set in yellow or white gold, jadeite, coral, turquoise, and a few sterling pieces. I would like to try hoops, not large round ones, maybe huggies or something like the pair95 posted. Lately I've noticed other shapes interest me - modified hoops that are open rectangles, or other geometric shapes....and I've been looking at Machete's tortoise ones too. I see everything - I think it's just anything goes according to your own style. I keep threatening to get a nose stud - maybe for my birthday. Either that or dye my hair some outrageous color. Must be female mid-life crisis - LOL!

I had double pierced ears in high school but I let the second hole close because my fiance did not like it. We have been married now for over twenty years. On my 35th birthday, four years ago, I got the second hole re-pierced. I wanted to be able to wear my diamond studs on a daily basis, but still have fun matching my earrings to my outfit. I usually only wear studs, if I wear dangling earrings I leave the second hole bare. I figure that now that I am all grown up I can do what I like! I think wearing two studs together looks really pretty. I actually also have a small 3 stone jeweled hoop the I wear with my diamonds, that looks pretty too. If you are younger you can probably do a more dramatic look with hoops or longer earrings. Have fun! If you don't like it, you can always let it close up. Just don't get you upper ear pierce, getting cartilage pierced can cause problems, not to mention that I have heard from friends that it hurts a lot more!

I have one hole in my left ear and three holes in my right ear. I wear very tiny studs in the 'extra' holes. Usually silver, but I also have a few others with colored stones. They are very tiny too.

It wasn't really a plan, I got hole #3 a few years after hole #2.

I bet you both look amazing.

I am a guy and l got both ears pierced when l was 15 and have worn earrings ever since. (1 in each earlobe). I am single at the present but love to see women with multiple pierced ears. I kind of think with a female partner they ought to have more earrings than me. Just my opinion btw.
