HA! Kat didn't you hear the news. we might get nice weather this weekend! I think Moni is skipping Whidbey, after Buchart.
Traffic is getting bad here already, and the best she could do would be walk her bike across the bridge : )
So to all tourists, PLEASE note those cables mean stay on the sidewalks and quit running in front of my car because it scares me that I might bounce you off the bridge !

Amanda; Every 4 to 6 weeks, no particular schedule involved here, I either siphon the water out or for the plants in the basket type pots, Like what you see above with the picture of the Anthurium plowmanii, I can lift the pot out and dump it. To siphon the water out I use a piece of silicone air line sold for aquarium use, with a hard plastic tube on one end, silicone is more flexible than clear vinyl tubing so I prefer it. Many pet shops sell this stuff for fixing, modifying or building tank filters. The size of the hard tubing is 3/16" to fit in the air line. I just push the hard tube through the media to the bottom of the container and start the siphon. Most of these small containers have less then a cup of water in them so they only take a few moments to empty, though a few of the larger setups I have may have more then a pint and they do take longer. A few of these containers have a larger(1/2") glass tube that extends to the bottom and I'll just slide the siphon tube down that. I use General Hydroponics Flora Nova Grow to fertilize when I refill the container and just top off the water every 4 - 7 days. Distilled if I have it, Tap water when I don't but I don't concern myself too much over which I use. Overall, I find this a very easy way to keep most of the plants I've tried with it Danny.

No, I did not remove the bulb or any part yet. But by popular demand, I will take it out and leave it out. I'll be working on it tomorrow and i'll let you know what I come up with, i'll also borrow a compression tester from auto zone and check that too. I don't think it's losing compression when hot because why would it be hesitating instead of just flat out dying?? It'll go from good power to no power and back and forth about once every second and just die when I throttle down. I'm now pretty sure it's a fuel deliver problem. But we shall see, i'll update you all on monday. Thanks for all your help! I just called my buddy and he said check the vacuum hose from the crank case operating the fuel pump. When the engine gets hot it could be causing the hose and or fitting to soften and leak and lose vacuum. hmmm.. i'll add that to the list and check it too.

I love the streakers for their look... I always have good intentions of doing something with the seeds (last year was a good example) but then I got too busy and didn't plant any of them. Sheri, Oh, it is drooling time! I can almost taste the tomatoes now. Sungold, Persimmon, and Cherokee Chocolate: if you get ripe tomatoes from only these three plants, you'll still think it is the best tomato year ever, taste-wise! Dr. Wyche's has always done better for me than Kellogg's Breakfast, but then, I have grown DWY for 5 or 6 years and KB for only 2, so Dr. Wyche's has had more opportunity to excell. Dr. Wyche's is a pretty heavy producer, and quite tasty. It also shows great disease resistance. Black Zebra is a very attractive-looking tomato, but I think Black Pineapple (which isn't really black at all, LOL) tastes much better. I have found that every striped tomato I've ever grown has looked pretty, and tasted no better than average. (sigh) Well, I take that back--the one exception is Indian Stripe. Momotaro is probably better than Carmello, but then, your taste buds and your growing conditions are different from mine, so you might find the opposite to be true. I do not think you'll be disappointed in Momotaro though. I haven't grow Alamo. We love Sweet Million and Black Plum, which is our postal carrier's favorite tomato ever since I started sharing them with her several years ago. You're right--I wasn't wild about Japanese Black Trifele, but lots of people love it, so maybe it was just me. Your Mystery Surprise is probably either a tomato that "lost its label" during the seedling growing process, or is from a new grow-out that DJ is trialing and perhaps hasn't even named yet. (I think mysteries and surprises are fun!) Yellow Platfoot Brandywine is yummy, and so is Black Pear. Brandy Boy is the best. If I could only grow one variety, this might be it. There are a few that taste better, but NONE of them can match BB's heavy production and disease resistance. And, even though there are a few that I think taste better than BB, none of them is loads and loads better, only a little better. I don't think I have grown Black Pearl, but isn't it a smallish tomato, more like Black Cherry? I think it is the Burpee hybrid that is said to taste more like a Concord grape after it has been refrigerated? If it even comes close to tasting like Black Cherry, it will be a real winner. I can tell you are ready to get the plants going. Have fun, but be careful and watch the weather. I feel sure we have another freeze or two to get through before Old Man Winter departs and lets us have Spring. I believe you will have more tomatoes this year than last. Remember that so much of last year.....the excessive rainfall, the continual cloudiness, the cooler-than-usual weather all combined to severely affect tomato production. Conditions like that are beyond our control AND exceptionally rare. This has GOT TO be a better year, right? By the way, my little container-grown Better Bush tomato has now formed a second tomato--it is just about the size of an English pea. I am so worried that a deer or possum will get my first green tomato that I carry this plant inside every single night. (It is a very pampered plant at this point. Today I picked up a lady bug and carried her over to the plant and sat her on a leaf, just so she could cruise around and hunt for any bugs that might be lurking.) I am SO looking forward to the first ripe tomato this year. No matter the size of the tomato, we always make BLT sandwiches out of the first ripe one. I am going to order the world's best bacon from the New Braunsfels Smokehouse just so we'll have it for the first BLT of 2008. (Most of the time we eat healthy and watch our fat intake and cholesterol, but BLT time is special and calls for a total disregard of the healthy eating rules!) Keep me posted on how planting goes. I hope to be out in the garden a lot the next few days if the weather cooperates. We are under all kinds of storm watches today, tonight and tomorrow, but so far everything is going either a couple of counties west of us OR a couple of counties east of us, and that's OK with me. Deception pass bridge... hmmm you are going to make me look and see, where it is aren't you. Ok, I looked. Nope, you don't have to bounce me off the bridge, I am not going that way. However, I am going over the Hood Canal, on 104.

I am flying to Seattle on the 27. of July. Then ride to Canada, via Bainbridge island.

I do have a journal going already.

Last week I was coming home from the "big city" ( Mt Vernon) and some idiot actually passed another car going onto the bridge, I don't know who was more scared, me or the car he was aiming at! Almost as bad as the guy in the 5th wheeler who didn't secure his shade canopy and it fell down and knocked down a guy on the sidewalk during Oyster Run. All he could ask me after I went running to him was "am I bleeding" ( Well..duh..)

sandy you havn't see anything yet till you cross the mackinac bridge in mi..they offer drivers to help you cross! and it has been known to close in bad weather...you can see thru it on the road bed!!!!

my other keep my eyes shut, is the bridge from san diego to coronado island...dh used to drive in the right lane and lol at me! it's very high to allow navy ships access...

LOL, at Sandy... but then I know her bridge fear. I WILL ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, if I make it that far that is. :)

Kat, I am aware of the mapmyride site, but am not a member, and don't use it.

I have the book: Bicycling the pacific coast, by Vicky Spring and Tom Kirkendalll. Mel has the bike maps from Adventure Cycling. Between those, we should be able to find the most scenic routes. :)

Yes Susan...my sister was nice enough to tell me ALL ABOUT that bridge!!!!!!!! Nope, there are NOT enough GOOD drugs to get me across that one!!!!!!!

One year we were all set to go to South Padre Island to visit my brother & SIL.....until I looked at a map and asked HOW we got there...."by the bridge, of course"! NO WAY!!! I have trouble with small ones, and it isn't all in my head either!!!!!! LOL

I am so used the to Pass, I just except someone to do something stupid on it..but the Tacoma Narrows Bridge makes me scared, and I refuse to drive across it *EVER *

Before they built the Coronado Bay Bridge there used to be a ferry there,and every weekend while DH was aboard ship,i'd have to drive him from Oceanside down to the ferry.I'm so glad he retired before they finished that bridge as there is no way in He** i would ever drive across that~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I hate bridges!! I still live in O'side and still have never crossed that bridge,nor do i ever intend to.

Well, Moni....I just traveled down the coast highway from Mid Washington to Brookings Oregon. (Sorry in a Winnebago) And I held my breath while riding along the "Oregon Bicycle Path" in far too many places....just thinking of you! I hope, I hope, I hope your group is big enough to tell those BIG motorhomes to make way for bicycles!. Too, too scary. I will be checking your journal to see how you do. (The southern part is really beautiful!)

Sandy I would cross a million bridges before I would ride a bike down the Pacific coast and get bullied by those Winnebagos. Moni, at least bicycling across the Golden Gate is safe because you have a railing between you and the cars. A few years ago a cousin took me across the Coronado Bridge in San Diego and we encountered several stopped police cars. They had just talked a jumper down from the bridge.
