Love my rIxi crackle mandorla tiles! Should I get almond outlets?

The color is called "mondorla" (means almond) and white outlets/covers would stick out.

I guess almond would look better than white?

I can' t find my darn camera but here is a pic of the tile

I don't like the color of the almond plate covers I've seen. I've never looked at nice ones though. Have you actually seen the covers yourself to know if the color would work?

What are your counters and cabs? Lots of stainless? I think that white or stainless would work too.

I'm so glad you love your Grazia rixis! I have yet to see them in person.

i was gone a couple of days... did you post your backsplash somewhere?!! i can't wait to see it. :)

someone has posted a link of nice outlet covers before. was it palimpsest? maybe someone knows.

okay just googled: Lutron and Aspire are a couple of brands recommended on gardenweb. also taymac paintable covers. good luck!

We've been in for 4 1/2 months now and overall are very happy with how our new home turned out. Things I love: Wood floors - Ours are 4" white oak, site finished in a medium stain color, satin finish(not shiny). Dover white laquer painted woodwork, mouldings, and cabinetry. We have stained cabinets in a couple of bathrooms, and I'm glad I didn't go stained in the kitchen and rest of the house. The stained acts like a dust magnet and washes out the paint color on the walls. But most of all, white wood against painted walls and hardwood floors just makes me happy.:-) Love my kitchen. Thank you kitchen forum! Definitely pay a visit over there if you're just getting started. -It turned out beautiful(white custom cabs, arched hood, wood floors) -Lots of well placed lighting all on dimmers -Functional, large layout with specific work zones -Danze faucets and pot filler -Silgranit sinks(love the big single basin and the round prep!) -Bosch ovens -Dacor 36" gas cooktop -Kitchenaid DW and Fridge -Giallo Ornamental granite -Microwave built into the island -Trash pullout -Tons of deep drawers instead of cabinet doors -Step in pantry Smart Strand carpet - feels and looks great - LOVE IT!!! Love our huge paved, curvy driveway and walkways. Lots of room for the kids to ride bikes, scooters, and play basketball. Huge covered porches front and back Exercise room off of master for treadmill and weights Walk in attic access from upstairs Huge bonus room upstairs Big laundry room with 2 washer and 2 dryer hookups, quartz folding countertop, deep stainless sink, and plenty of storage. Love that the dryers vent right outside, not up through walls and then to the roof like our last house. Makes cleaning the duct a huge pain and cuts down on effiency. Sound system with speakers throughout and on back porch Paint colors - Tobacco Road(main), Dover White(woodwork) Lots of lighting throughout almost all on dimmers Schlage door hardware and deadbolts Love being out in the country on a little land with tons of trees and a pond. Peaceful and lots of room for the kids to play and explore. Things I'd do differently - Insulate wall where upstairs bath plumbing runs downstairs for sound reduction. Put in sprinkler system - On the list to do next spring Wish we would've upgraded to satin or eggshell paint in the bonus and kids rooms. Went with flat to save money figuring we could always repaint later.

prill- so excited to see your posts on the tile. I was busy this weekend working on the house. Here's my thought....paint the cabinets first. This was key for me. The simply white is fairly true white, but not stark. The creme Rixi is really creamy and I don't think it would look good for a whole bunch of creamy subway with whiter cabinets. As someone else pointed out, my counter has minimal veining...it's more variations of grey with a touch of white and green. In the photos I originally took the stone had just been oiled (with the oil/bees wax mixture). It's been in a month and I haven't oiled since. It's faded to more natural state. That being said, I like the Rixi with more natural state of my stone. So, also take that it consideration. I say do what you love...the backsplash is relatively easily changed in 10 years if you decide your tired of it. I love color, so I'm not as fond of the creme/white backsplash. Good luck...by the way, if you are putting in Flourscent lighting or your kitchen gets northern/eastern light, the Reef gets pretty blue. Mine gets a south/west natural light and Flourscent with the under cabinets.

White / cream subway tile is like blue jeans - goes with many things. Don't worry about the contrast between the counter and backsplash. That is pretty normal. Many use subway tile with dark counters - that is a lot of contrast - but it is OK: Here is the contrast with mine (click on pic for larger view) My kitchen is in a vintage style and there are more pics in my "my pics" idea book): The backsplash has to pull the cabinets and counter together. It does not need to perfectly match. There is cream and white in my counter. White looked closer to the countertop, but was too stark with my cabinets. The cream was the better option - I think - sometimes I am still not sure:) Also, computer monitors do not show true color - so some here may think a different "white" would work better, but they are not seeing the true color. Only you can see it, and I bet you will hardly think about it in a few weeks. I love kjoy's picture with some glass doors. I have one and like how it breaks up the wood. I also have a plate rail cabinet that adds some of my style. I retrofitted a cabinet with a kit. Another thing you might consider: If the tiler did not give you the left over tile, see if you can get some and stow it away. When the micro over the range dies, replace it with a pretty stainless hood - that might be the bit of glam that you were looking for. I am short and would have problems using your microwave - but it looks newer. It might be possible to mount that whole cabinet somewhere else and get a pretty hood - but that could get expensive. I searched around for a copper or similar hood, but they were outside my budget. I did eventually stain a wood hood to match, but with the stainless range, it would be easy to find a reasonable yet attractive vent hood - especially with a 6 burner gas range. A micro / vent probably does not vent very well for a range like you have.

Your kitchen is really beautiful but that is a lot of wood. Whitewash might create more texture but maybe a milk paint or actual paint could lighten up the space and make it a little more country modern. If it were my kitchen I might keep some of the wood and update countertops and maybe the ceilings. It certainly is a beautiful space. Here are some kitchens below that use the wood but add some areas of light or paint. Just ideas that might help think about the space. Here are a few ideas that come to mind. update without paintpainting cabinets never again this one looks like white wash I love the wood but the ceiling and counters help balance the space

thx for that info, I will do a search on it. I also read a thread where someone suggested glass covers.
Breezy girl, well the tile design gal said her customers with the rixi went with the almond and that's her suggestion. The white looks really bad, at least the almond will blend in better. I really wish the tile company had matching covers!

Get rid of the outlet idea and go with Plugmold..their hidden...see link below.

When the electrician wired the kitchen, he showed me a catalog that had probably 25 colors of switches/plates. It might have been levitron, but not sure.

I too am waiting on the pics of your installed backsplash to see how the rixi's look.

I just bought some Levitron light almond outlets and light switches with screw less covers.

I am very happy with how streamlined and modern they look. At first glance I thought they were white. My electrician told me about them, and said most people use them nowadays for off-white or cream subway backslashes.

Hopefully this will help others in their decision.

I also looked into the custom, online store , Columbia Jorge stoneworks since a few gw'ers used them. I was worried how the edges of the covers would looked chipped, since I have the crackle finish.

They match the mondorla tiles soooo much better than the bright white.

I did not know there was a new color, light almond vs the regular almond!

I hope this helps others stuck on which covers to get.

ooo, can't wait to see :) Your pic looks creamy almond, but I saw mandorla installed in another gwebber's kitchen and it definitely had a greenish cast. Gorgeous either way!
