It will work. But you really don't need to add any sugar at all.

I like making the dump cakes by stirring the fruit
and juice together and pouring into a pan with nothing else.
NO butter, def. no sugar. Just add a can of fruit, stir
together and bake. yummy! I've never tried it with
peaches, but I'm going to. I'll put the peaches on the bottom
of the pan and then mix the juice/syrup (I NEVER buy heavy syrup)
with the cake mix and bake it that way.
I'll let you know how that works out. It is def. more "cakey" than cobbler like. cobbler has more of a crustier top, right?

(blackberry, blueberry, raspberry) into the bottom
of your pan.

Mix yellow cake mix (with OUT pudding in the mix)
with a can of soda, ( I used just a tad less than the
whole can)
pour over the berries and bake about 325 for about an hour.

I find that the cake mix with OUT the pudding in
the mix works the best.

Yesterday I saw a recipe that said to add a can of cherry pie filling on top of the peaches and then add the cake mix. Then add a 1/2 cup of chopped pecans on top of that.

I make different kinds of dump cake from time to time. I have never added sugar, but then again we have all kinds of canned fruit, with sugar, with out light and so forth. Yes, pecans on top are a really good thing. My son in laws favorite is with the canned cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple.

My Mom makes a dump cake with chocolate cake mix and canned cherry pie filling. She usually tops it with white icing, sory of a Black Forest cake.

This is fruit cocktail cobbler I found, and it's the same as the peach.

1 box yellow cake mix (prepared as directed)
2 cans fruit cocktail (or your choice)
1 cup butter or margarine

Directions:

Pour fruit cocktail,juice and all into a well greased 9"x13" cake pan. Spoom prepared cake mix over this. Melt butter or margarine and pour over mix. Bake in 350 degree oven til brown, about 45 minutes to 1 hour

That's interesting - my recipe for dump cake only says to sprinkle the dry powdered cake mix on top of the fruit. Apparently Glenda's recipe says to prepare the mix (add eggs, water or oil etc.) and then spoon it over the fruit.

I'll have to try that next time.

Directions

I made Glenda's recipe last week with the peaches. You don't prepare the cake mix, just put it on dry and pour melted butter over the top. IN the past I've made it with canned pie filling. Just as good.

Just be sure and firmly pat the cake mix down before pouring the butter :o)

I also use a 13 X 9 glass cake pan. Less than 2 inches for the berries...

I've made a dump cake several times with the cherry pie filling, coconut,pecan chips, cake mix,(can't remember if its white or yellow though)and melted butter. It is So good!

Hmmmmm now re-reading that I wonder if it had crushed pineapple in it too?? Can't remember. Might be time to make it again. LOL

Try this and use the chocolate cake mix to get a BLACK FOREST DUMP CAKE :O)

CHERRY DUMP CAKE

Dump 2 cans cherry pie filling in a rectangular baking pan (13x9). Sprinkle 1 yellow cake mix (dry) over the cherries. Slice 1 stick butter thin and place slices over dry cake and cherries. Bake approximately 1 hour at 350 degrees.

i THINK, Brenda, I would melt the butter and spread over the cake mix, but pat the cake mix down over the pie filling before adding the butter. You might want to check the timing on it, as it probably won't take that long to bake. Certainly not an hour.

I just made my dump cake. Haven't tasted it yet, but I would like to get clarification on how to make it. My recipe said put in cherry pie filling, then the pineapple, the cake mix, and drizzle with melted butter. Do not stir. I had to add more melted butter because there was cake mix on top just sitting there.

I've made peach dump cake for family get-togethers. It's always well-received, but it's far too sweet for my and my hubby's taste. It's a can of peaches, the cake mix and melted butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Just use the amount of butter recommended in the recipe. There are definitely dry patches of cake mix. You don't want the top to be covered in melted butter. It all works out.
