window behind range?
Comments (28)I don't know where I've been lately (actually, yes I do -- shoveling. Maine is finally getting the storm!). Missed a few responses -- so nice to see them today! Before the storm got really bad, we took a ride down to see the progress on the new kitchen. The wall between kitchen and DR is GONE! The floor and subfloor are GONE! Looks like we're finally getting started. Scary and fun all at the same time. We ordered 3 windows, one of which will go behind the slide in gas range. The 3rd window is partly for the view and partly to just bring in light. The only people who can see that side of the house are the fishermen and clam diggers down on the shore below. buehl -- thanks for the dimension recommendations. Now I have something to start working with. The KDs had quite a few ideas that we had to decline, all of which involved more $$ than we wanted to spend. Perhaps with unlimited resources it have been fun, but.... cotehele --I love your kitchen! What is the distance between cooktop and hood? We'll have at least 44" and I'm worried about venting... skyedog -- thank you for the specifics (sorry I missed your post) jejvtr -- I'm still trying to learn how to post photos.......See MoreNiches In Wall Behind Cooktop & In Pantry Wall--Anyone Have? Comments (24)love the message niche idea...now I want one too... I am one of those "use every inch" types so I think putting stuff in between studs is great--otherwise think of all the wasted space!! If you don't fry, etc. maybe it isn't a concern, but I just wanted to say I have a narrow shelf behind my cooktop now, pretty high up, with a few doodads and jars on it, and it is DISGUSTING. I reached for something the other day and it had the nastiest film on it. TO clean it I would have to dump out all the spices in the bottle and wash it. So I just put it back, LOL...anyway, even if there's not grease there will be steam, which will attract dust and make a film. So if you do want a niche plan on it being purely decorative, and on washing the stuf in it periodically. BTW what is OOAK?...See MoreStainless Backsplash behind range--what do you think?
Comments (14)Wow, thanks for the responses. Today was the decision day for us. First stop, we went to the local fabricator. He is going to make me my duct cover for the hood. (42wx12dx24h) for about $80! Then we decided to do a 36x36 piece of stainless steel for behind the range. (around $40-$50), man I love the Amish. Next stop the appliance store. Ordered the 36" rangetop with the 24" high backguard with shelf! I figured if the rangetop ever was pulled out, what would be behind it? Do I want to spend $$$ on tiling behind it? Not really. So this way there is a piece of ss behind backguard The stainless sheet will go from the hood to below the top of the rangetop. Kellienoelle: I did look carefully at the showroom, and they tiled right up to the stainless and then just end it with a line of grout. It looks perfect. bacin0--what rangetop are you looking at? shappy-this is good, no, great to hear! will, I remember that shelf. My cabinets are quite a distance out from the range, I don't think it would look right. But I do recall it looked really nice in that kitchen. polie, my range is 36" wide the hood is 42" wide. The backguard is 24" high. Sorry for the confusion! westiegirl, ah yes, the streaks....I'll try antiquesilver's tip too! motherof3, can't wait to see that! thanks fromthesouth--yep, that's the look---ss from range to hood! Can't wait! Thanks again everybody!...See MoreHey! It's kinda starting to look like a kitchen! Progress Pics
Comments (35)Newcastle--Yes, I pay the GC's overhead on everything, including cabs. I'm not sure he'll go for me getting my own. Despite tough economic times and a great first few meetings with him this year, he seems to be getting p!ssy about me sourcing my own materials. Why should I pay all the markup when I'm doing all the work to research and find the materials and can order them cheaper than he can get them? Because then he isn't making his $ and won't do my job. I'm not in a great position to be my own GC at this point with the baby, preschooler, busy DH, no experience, etc. Thanks for more info about your guy. Pug--I still think the right gray would look very chic with your cabs. Let us know what you find!...See More- 14 years ago
