There's always a way to do something but in this situation I wouldn't imagine it would be easy or inexpensive. There isn't a saw per se. You'd have to make some kind of jig and probably use a router. Even then, there would be a fair amount of handwork. It would probably be easier to remove the old baseboard. Baseboard usually doesn't have that many nails in the bottom 3/4" or so taken up by the flooring. Since you plan on replacing it with smaller moulding you should plan on some drywall patching and painting. Mike

I have a problem. The idiots that laid my hardwood floors down never took off the baseboard. I want to remove the baseboard and change it out, but I can't pull it away from the wall now. What would you use to cut it fairly flush to the floor? I have a multimaster fein tool, but that would take forever, plus it would be costly for all the blades. Would a rotozip work? Any other ideas? I posted this in remodeling also. Didn't know which forum to use.

Hi, there. It's not an insulated concrete form house. It's a Manhattan apartment building constructed in the 50s with concrete walls, and no foam insulation. I know we are allowed to place the wires in the wall, but we just can't cut through any structural parts of the wall. I guess I was wondering if they could make a channel at the bottom of the wall.

Are you doing new drywall where the base will go? If so, a nice modern touch is to do the tile or wood base flush with the drywall. The drywall would be run down to just above the baseboard height, and a reglet used to make a nice crisp edge.
