My brother and his wife have a house similar to yours in North Carolina. They painted it a light sage with cream trim--it looks great. :)

I'm not great at exterior colors but love your Florida house. I miss living there. My grandma had a house very much like that in Apopka. It went away in the name of progress and a new subdivision.

Hi Sandy! I'm pretty new here myself so we can be the new girls together. Your house looks so nice! I wish you could send some of your grass over here. I'm in New Mexico where grass in someone's front yard is becoming more and more of a novelty lol! My sister is in Florida and I love going to see her not just because I love my sister but because I get to see grass and trees!
I have to admit that I am really no good at exterior paint colors. Interior paint I can do but when the sun shines on paint that I have selected for any exterior surface the outcome is not pretty. Actually, we currently have the prettiest pinkish/peach workshop-garage on the block :) To this day I will swear I thought it would be a nice neutral cream to match our trim. However, if you go to your local Benjamin Moore they have a really nice brochure with exterior colors. They also have some really pretty beiges in the Historical collection. Have you looked at any of these yet?

Thanks nmladybug! I will be glad to let you come visit and roll in my grass. No dogs here so you'll be safe. It needs to be mowed right now. By the way, that mass of cut off bushes is going to be pulled up today as soon as my brother in law gets here with his truck. It's a mass of roots of azalea and other trees that grew up in it.

If anyone can photo shop some colors on the house I would be so grateful. I want to see the sage and cream idea just to get a feel for it. That long part of the side of the house is what you see when you are going down the road. IT's just so long looking.

I guess I should go get some BM paint charts and also drive around and look at some houses already painted. Thanks though for those of you who did try and help me. I really appreciate it.

I like the idea of a sage also-- or a gray with a slight green or blue tone. In my world, sage really is a neutral.

Sorry, I can't photoshop for you but I definitely think a hint of color will make it look all the more charming.

We had a house just like that in Lake Helen, Florida!!! It was painted sage green with white trim and I will always think of it as being the prettiest house I ever lived in! My Dad planted perennial poinsettias down the long side and it was lovely in the winter with the beautiful big red leaf bracts against the sage house. Thanks for a wonderful memory!

Welcome, Sandy! I lived for several years in a house like yours, down in Deerfield Beach (FL). With all the beautiful exotic flowers and flowering shrubs available ~ not to mention real grass!~ how about a crisp white with black or dark green trim and then add lots of hibiscus and other flowering bushes for pops of color in hot pink, lemon yellow, etc.?
Then again, when we were in St.Thomas this past winter, I loved those pink, yellow and lavender houses . . . although they're far from neutral! ;^P

I encourage you to pick up the book Bungalow Colors by Robert Schweitzer. Schweitzer is a well-known architectural historian and runs a color consulting company specializing in exteriors of old houses. You have a simplified bungalow style house and it would look lovely in colors appropriate to the period in which it was built rather than "blanded down".
