I do. Wasn't a mistake. I don't know why
you would need to do anything different.
Just buy the accessories in colors that you like.

I wouldn't buy stainless - but I love the black.

All my appliances are black. They look great with stainless and brushed nickel items in a kitchen.

Sorry to disagree, but I'd never buy black appliances. A black cooktop and black ovens, black dishwasher and black trash compactor were here when we bought. I got a white refrigerator, and when I replaced my second Maytag dishwasher (two in three years) I got a different brand with a brushed finish.
Black is hard for me to keep clean--perhaps I'm a messy cook, but the fronts of the ovens are always streaked, the cooktop has to be cleaned daily, and the trash compactor is on its way to the trash! Plus all those black surfaces show every speck and splash. Give me white, please!

I like the look of black appliances, but my cabinets are white and so are my appliances. I prefer white anyway. It's the only color that never goes out of style.

I have a black wall oven set, black cook top and black dishwasher. We had a fancy used brick built in grill in the kitchen, and the black on some of the bricks coordinated. When I redecorated, I used a little black in the white tile blacksplash and black granite counter tops.

Our main kitchen has black appliances; our second kitchen has white. I much prefer the black! Our black refrigerator has textured finish, which is easier to keep clean than the smooth finish.

When my DD bought her house it had black appliances, she replaced them years later with.......black appliances. She didn't want white or stainless steel and they look great with her cabinets and countertops.

I like our black appliances. They shine up easily with a little alcohol cleaning.

I think black appliances look classic. The only black I would never buy again is my black glass cooktop - oh how I hate that. It shows every speck - so even when it's clean it shows the dust. Who ever heard of having to dust a cooktop!

The glassy or smooth black appliances are a PITA to clean, but the pebbly surfaces aren't bad to clean. But the preference isn't mine, it's what you like. (But I do happen to find large black appliances depressing.)

I prefer white for myself but I don't see that there should be any issues with black. You wipe down appliances anyway. At least black is fired on paint or glass and not stainless that can be etched with plain water.

Black does look better with certain shades of cabinets than white does. I like black with white cabs and the yellowish woods like maple. One of the reasons I eliminated natural maple from my list was because I wanted white appliances.

DS Has black including the fridge and it looks very modern

we chose black for our new home 5 years ago and I love them. I have had while, almond, stainless and yes once in the dark ages I had brown and green..

By far the black is my choice. It looks so nice in the kitchen and is so much easier than any of the rest to take care of and to keep clean.

When we bought our home 11 years ago the appliances were black and I love the look. When I had granite installed 3 years ago I picked a color with black in it so it would all blend in. I think it is classy looking, my electric can opener and toaster are also black. When time comes to replace appliances I will still go with black. I read many blogs and black is very popular in home decorating.

I just replaced my stove and refrigerator with black. Stainless just reeks of "fad" and people trying to look like a professional kitchen when everything they cook comes in a cardboard box or a plastic bag out of the freezer. And no way will I pay the $200 more for it anyway. Personally I like almond - that goes with most anything. But with the oak cabinets and yellow walls I went with black. Doesn't show the dirt like white. Doesn't stick out and look so out of place as do white appliances. Black blends in and isn't as sore thumb looking. White appliances, with rare exception look like an afterthought. I just think of 1940s kitchens getting their first refrigerator when I see white appliances in most situations. White appliances, especially coupled with oak finished cabinets makes the place look like it's straight out of "Habitat for Humanity". White appliances often are different tints so they don't match. Black is black. Stainless often doesn't match, not that matching is that important to me anyway. And people that want an all white kitchen never made sense to me. You spend all your time cleaning them instead of using it for cooking.

When I moved in the refrigerator (white) looked so tacky I painted it almond. My preferred appliance color is the old "coppertone" but that's not available commonly anymore and getting red appliances isn't easy.

I always find it humorous that people want white kitchen appliances, then buy colored cookware, colored small appliances and colored laundry appliances! To me, the kitchen appliances show off more so that's more important in "looks" to me than the others. And still, form should always follow function. If I had a choice of the appliance with the features I wanted in white or one without the features I wanted in black, I'd go with the white unless there's another source.

In the end, it's still a personal choice. My cousin grew up with white appliances and can't adjust to anything else so he has to have everything white. Plus it's often cheaper, which is a selling point to him. His new house at the lake looks silly to me with the white appliances that stand out so and when you stand back, one is very white, one is dull white and the other is off-white. But he's happy with it so that's fine.

I will say I was apprehensive whether it would make the room seem dark by having the black appliances. As soon as I got a look at it, and the installer said boy, it really looks different now! I knew I made the right choice. I was pretty sure I would like it though since I've been looking at houses and everytime I'd see black appliances they looked SO much classier than white or stainless.

Again, my opinion. But I don't think it's a mistake to get what you really wanted. Frankly I would have paid more to have black over white appliances but mine were the same price.

I have black and stainless..my gas range is a black cook top and the front is stainless....my fridge and dishwasher are stainless fronts as well with black trim and sides...and my OVR Micro is all black...the only thing about the black range top is I have to "dust" it...my house is small and dusty...so even after I've wiped it all down and dried it....2 hours later...I can "see" things.

I happen to love the look of my stainless and black appliances...I had white and almond before...just wasn't me...

LOL, Black always goes well with pearls and a little stainless toaster! Pour a glass of the bubbly and enjoy! could not resist...

We have black appliances. The builder's allowance was for stainless, but I'm not fond of it and I didn't want to deal with the fingerprints from the kids. We saved enough by buying black that it almost paid for the fridge. It doesn't look any dirtier than having white ever did.

I'd probably prefer white, but it wouldn't look good in my kitchen.

I moved into a rental with black appliances. I made a note to self:" don't ever buy black appliances". They make the kitchen too dark. I am now looking for a home to buy and I won't even consider a home with black appliances......

In case it matters to anyone, this post is from June, 2010. I still like black but a black refrigerator would overpower my small kitchen.

Hmmm........I also live in a rental with black appliances. And it is on the lower level so not a bright, light filled space at the best of times. Having lived with almond colored appliances previously, I have not found that black makes the room any darker. But they are paired with blonde wood floors and cabinets and a white counter top, which could make a difference.

My only complaint is that they show dirt easier, especially the stove. Every single speck of dust, grain of salt, errant cat hair shows up instantly and clearly. Even wiping it down doesn't solve the problem as it leaves very clear water marks, so I have to wipe it clean then dry it off and buff it to make it look shiny clean!

Why do people bring up these old posts? I only realized it was old when I noticed someone on it that had passed away. Why not start a new post? Why would you reply to a post that is 9 years old?

Because the topic came up in a search and they felt that they had something to add? Or just wanted to comment? It really doesn't make much difference how old a thread is or when it was started.....if someone still has something to add, I don't see any reason why not. It's not like these things have an expiration date on them :-)
