we had someone else on here whose 'white' cabs looked peachy - don't remember why tho. Maybe someone else will remember the why and the who of it.

I think when something was changed tho her cabs lost the peachy look.

But you need to slow down in your explanation, because I am really hazy on the specifics of your post. Are there three colors of paint? Cabinet, wall, and trim? Because you say paint several times in your post without saying which of the three paints you mean, and it really isn't clear (maybe I'm just slow and others will get it, but it isn't clear to me). Which looks purple, trim or wall (I'm guessing not the cabs because you said they look yellow)? Do both the walls and trim look bad with the cabs, or just the trim?

Desertsteph, I think her cabinets were pinkish and she changed the lighting, and maybe also the paint color of the walls. I will google to see what I can find.

Sorry for the fluster post. Yes there are three colors going on.

The wall looks purple right now because the painter tried to color match Benjiman moore to the paint company he normally uses. The brown undertone came out purple so my whole house looks purple. It should be Upper West Side. Right now the Trim is Dove White. The paint is Upper West side gone wrong. The cabinets are Antique white from the manufacturer. The kitchen looks awful. I like the cabinets when they got first installed.

To fix the bad paint we got Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter white we have in our current house. It toned it down a lot but there is only wall small wall over the pantry door and beside the cabinets painted right now. The contrast isn't so bad in that corner. If you look down behind my island the lowers look white and you look up and it is yellow.

The trim looks great in the rest of the house but not in the kitchen. The kitchen is open to the great room but there is a nook and one door way in the kitchen with square corners on the walls. I am thinking maybe paint the trim and doors a slightly warmer white. I don't want to color match because it will be to obvious to the other trim colors.

So Trim Crisp White, Walls temporarily purple gray and cabinets looks yellow.

The walls are going to be repainted Revere Pewter and the trim except the kitchen. Nothing is installed in the kitchen other than cabinets and trim.

You know something? It's funny to see this today. We used BM AF-5 (Frostine) for our trim because I sat with a designer with all the BM white paint chips to find the closest one to our cabinetry we ordered. This was it. It's a lovely shade. They started painting our trim a few days ago. It's a new build so we have no lighting other than from the sun. But it's creamier than I thought it would be. It's not creamy but not as white as I thought it would be...enough that I asked them to show me a can to make sure they didn't get the wrong color. It's the right shade from BM too.

Today I brought my paint chip with me. It doesn't look the same as what's on my trim. Why would that be? The trim is beautiful. But it's making me worried about my cabinets that will be near the trim.

I wish I had a solution. But I sympathize. I would think paint would look the same as what's on the chip, no?

You may want to try changing your lighting. We had to change to LCD in order to get rid of a greenish tinge on our cabinets. Sometimes going from warm white to cool white lighting can make a huge difference.

I have heard from many BM users that the paint always turns out very close to the chip. My mistake was picking a trim color not in my light and not by my cupboards. I picked the wall paint with the cupboards present but not the trim. If the kitchen wasn't open to the greatroom I would just use a different trim. The greatroom has built in cabinets, coffered cielings and a 14ft wall of windows with thick trim. There is just too much to repaint with out it costing me too much money. The trim in the nook is hidden a bit so I could maybe get away with a slightly warmer white. I caught this problem way too late.

I will definitely go buy some new light bulbs. I thought once everything was installed the creamy look I was a bit surprised about would tone down with countertops and appliances. When the paint was added it was opposite effect. It really looks bad.

Do you think I should color match the trim to the cabinets? Use a warmer white trim in the kitchen area? Leave it?

I know how upsetting this can be and I'm so sorry that it isn't going well. I think you should just leave it for now and see how it looks when it's not the most glaring thing in the room to you. But if you still feel unsettled about it I think it would be perfectly fine to have a different trim color in the kitchen even if it does open to the other room as long as there is a break somewhere to do it. It isn't going to be THAT big of a color difference right? Just a tweak in the white? It will just look like a lighting thing and IMO I really don't think anyone would notice the trim color change once everything else is in place if you choose to change it just in the kitchen. I wasn't going to share my kitchen till it was done but I gave that up after the purple/yellow/white incident. I haven't gone in my house again to take pictures. I get frustrated when I walk in. I posted before pictures in the home decorating forum. I am thinking of painting the pantry door/trim the same as the cabinets and letting the nook window trim stay the same. I am also thinking of painting the ceiling slightly creamier just to down play the contrast of the cabinets with ceiling.

Opening for fridge is a paneled built in subzero. The door opening is to the walk thru pantry. You can see the peachy tone a little before in the doors above the fridge.

The island has a overhang with posts supporting the quartz which is not shown. The quartz is ceasarstone shaded white Nougat. This will add more white to the mix.

Based on your pix, I think I'd paint the upper crown on the cabs to match the ceiling instead of darkening the ceiling with the cab color. It would be best to make the trim contrasting instead of trying to blend.
For the walls, I'd do a deeper shade so that you don't have so many "colors" in the same depth of tone going on...
If the white trim really bugs you, then make the trim in the kitchen either lighter or darker than your wall color and entirely not a version of white.

It sounds to me (maybe I'm still not getting it right?) that a large factor here is that the painter took a BM color and got it color matched in a another brand of paint. That sounds more like his problem, not yours. If it is close enough perhaps a single top coat of the real BM color will do the trick.

Get some real BM paint in the shade you requested and cover a large (3' x 4') sheet of foamboard with a couple of coats and then hold or prop that up against your walls. Does that look purple, too?

Some of BM newest colors (the Color Stories line) are billed as full-spectrum paints and that type of paint is notorious for being hard to color match since many pigments in very, very, tiny quantities are used, especially in whites.

I don't dislike the colors I see on your wall. Perhaps it's only critical in the kitchen where you have the white cabs. Worst case you could try it with as is and with your stuff and only repaint that room if necessary.

I don't dislike your colors, either. However, I know how it is to have things change in the light and be just SO different.

I also agree with using the actual BM colors. I've tried to have some other paints matched by BM so I can use Cabinet Coat for my cabinets. They can get allllllllmost. But in my home lighting? Different. On the 3rd try on the uppers, it's just enough different than the original pait that the turquoise-y shade is gone, tho. However, on the lowers? I'm going back to the original paint maker. They just can't hit it.

I don't get the matching thing, when it's just not.

Perhaps talk to your painter and tell him what makes you sick when you walk into your beautiful new home. You cannot live with, "I love it, but..."

Yes the color match is the problem for the walls. The color in the picture is just an off white primer the painter used on the bare drywall. He is going to use BM paint from BM now. I changed the paint for the walls to Revere Pewter to tone down the kitchen. The cupboards did look better by the sample but not completely. That may be because there is so much purple in the house. The color is really terrible on the walls right now. The walls will be repainted.

I learned my lesson. Never color match and pick the trim in my light with my cabinets. I think I am going to paint the pantry door and leave the rest. I wish I could repaint the trim in the entire house but it is too expensive.

I just held up my Dove White trim swatch to the trim. The trim is not the right color.
