My son and DIL hate mushrooms, too, so she uses cream of potato or celery or chicken.
Luckily, my dh isn't particular. He does insist on genuine Hershey syrup and Skippy peanut butter, though!

I do have a hot meal for him at lunch everyday. It gives him an extra 15 minutes to play instead of cooking something for himself.
I make a much healthier lunch as well.
Since I am not working right now, it is the least I can do.
I am spoiling him. It may come back and bite me in the butt.

I would do anything for him and he would for me too. I would never cook anything that he hates, but that's easy because I don't think he hates anything. :o)

I don't have a DH but I do often make dinner for a man I might be dating. Surprisingly it seems that mushrooms and eggs are two foods that guys don't like and adamantly REFUSE to eat. My current BF won't eat onions. I had another one like that, who was so sensitive to onions that you had to use a different cutting board that was not ever used for onions, ever.

Jasdip, have you ever tried to make the base for the scalloped potatoes dish from scratch? It ' s wasy to do and it might be less work that using canned and then straining the mushrooms. Also, if you really want to used canned soup in a recipe you can often substitute other soups like cream of celery, or cream of chicken and get the same results.

My husband hates garlic, so whenever I make any recipe I omit it. I once forgot and boy did he yell. I know for sure that his mother cooked with garlic, she didn't cater to his little-boy tastes. And speaking of mushrooms, my Mom used to make a tuna casserole with cream of mushroom soup. Everyone loved it, it was a wintertime comfort" food. My brother picked out and pushed all the mushrooms to the side of his plate.

DH and I seem to be on the same wavelength and we both love every kind of food. But in the evening, I always get him his dessert and serve it to him. And when he has sore muscles, I give him a massage with body oils and all or turn on the jacuzzi for him. Some days I think he just says he has a sore shoulder or neck. LOL And that's okay too.

DH loves my scalloped potatoes. He has never cared for them growing up, or when other people make them. He knows there's mushroom soup in there, and knows I strain the mushrooms out. If he gets mushrooms in a salad, he just picks them out, so it's not like I can't serve mushrooms in anything......long as they're big enough to see so he can pick them out.

Like your BF, my brother hates onions in anything, and can spot them a mile away. I would miss not using onions.

DH does not like noodles or rice in soups. I miss having noodles in soups especially. He disliked pasta when we married, but liked the sauce. Now he will eat pasta but with lots of sauce. He hates pot roast, so no pot roast. He does like onions, thank goodness.

I do try to go above and beyond but his plate is very full at the moment taking care of me and all that my disease involves. He eats most anything and I have so few things that he doesn't like that it is not a big deal. I do more for him in a personal way than otherwise. I know that he is capable of doing things for himself but I always try to be there to make a bag of popcorn or dish up some ice cream ..that sort of thing.

When I was able and not housebound like I am now. I would always on Fridays find some little something to surprise him with..Whether it be a new magazine, his favorite chicken fingers from a local resturant(after I go off work), or something as simple as a little card stuck in his wallet that said, "I prayed for you today." Or "You are the best." Now, I find myself thinking I don't do so much...I am glad this question came up. I need to get busy.

I write little love notes to DH every day......on the sudoku puzzles in the newspaper.

I try to make his lunches each day, as well as my FIL's (they work together). I do his laundry. LOL

DH doesn't like coconut. Many Springtime cakes call for tinted coconut to be used as grass. I take the time to pipe the grass with buttercreme.

He also doesn't like liver,even the smell. So I make the sacrifice and go out for liver and onions at my favorite diner for my liver fix. (can't let myself get anemic ya know).

DH loves poached eggs. His Gma used to make them for him when he stayed at her house overnight. So I occasionally fix them for him..even for supper.

I, on the other hand, couldn't eat a poached egg (nasty, slimy things) if someone held a gun to my head!

It is difficult for DH to get out because of his emphysema. I get him out for a Dr's appointment or on a real nice day, er will go for a car ride, although it's quite a production to get him out to the car. When I do have an errand, shopping, my own Dr's appt ,ect. I try to pay attention to what I see along the way, so I can have something interesting to tell him about. I have to admit that sometimes I embellish the story sometimes. He seems to enjoy these tales and if I forget to tell him something, he asks if I saw anything interesting. Dottie

I cut out cartoons (that mean something in some way just to us) and tape them on the mirror in his bathroom. I've kept a lot of them through 21 years and some are real doozies! LOL
