Has anyone used rustoleum to paint brass knobs?
Comments (3)Yes, it works. To a point. I primed and sprayed some brass doorknobs black with Rustoleum primer and matte paint. 7 months later, the paint is wearing off on the most-used knobs. I've been looking for black knobs to replace them. On the other hand, I did the same to kitchen cabinet knobs and the finish lasted over 15 years. Go figure....See MoreUpdate - Mirror up and vanity painted.
Comments (37)Another outstanding job, Sheesharee! Love your colors, artwork, & the plate. What a beautiful bathroom you've created. I don't think you need to worry too much about matching the metals, as long as all the accessories have that "old world" feel you have going. In Nell Hill's books, she uses such beautiful combinations of silver & gold-toned things. I think the effect just oozes personality & style. She unifies the look by keeping everything very traditional. It all looks so rich...like your decor! You have such good taste. When I was your age...eek!...See MoreNightstand - should I paint this black?
Comments (100)Val - It's more of a tiny puncture. Still frustrating though. At least a didn't break the bank on the coverlet! :) I wanted to be able to close the curtains at night. The romans would mainly be for pretty. I wouldn't have to add the bamboo romans but I thought they could add some nice texture. If you look at the last couple of pics the tall dresser is moved down about to the lightswitch. I loved that brass lamp when I bought it cheap at the thrift store. I paid too much for the shade that I think is too small and couldn't return. I'm about ready to get rid of it. I don't think it looks right on the dresser either but it was basically my last attempt to use it. I'll move the round table back. I have this chair and had considered using it in the office if we ever get it done. Obviously it would need recovered. Maybe in the plaid if I keep this layout? Oh, I wanted to mention, there are character marks on top the vanity already. I don't know how that will be with the cats. I feel like I'm trying to make the vanity look like a focal point, like a fireplace, but it's not a fireplace, iykwim....See MoreAny review on knobs and pulls from Anthropologie?
Comments (11)These door knobs are lovely, but I found the installation challenges insurmountable. I suspect this is true of all of the door knobs. This is so unfortunate. All of the knobs are very stylish and would add an eclectic edge to any home. 1. The latch mechanism is not included. I was able to purchase a standard latch from a hardware store. 2. The spindle is way too long. It is 5 inches long. I think this is probably way beyond any standard length in the U.S. I was able to purchase a replacement spindle that was 3.5 inches long. Plus, the spindle was installed in one knob. It was not easy to remove. I had to use vice grip pliers. I know you want it secure, but given the need for a replacement, it would have been easier to deal with a separate spindle. 3. The backplate requires screws. The door has a drilled out hole. There is no place for the screws. I tried doing the installation without the screws. The backplate and knobs are heavy. Even with the locking screws installed on the knobs everything shifts a little with each turn. This throws off the latch. Step 3 was the final sticking point. There was no way, for me at least, to make this work without anchoring the backplate. I used duct tape to hold the backplates in place so I could tighten the knobs. The door knob worked pretty well with the tape in place. Once I took it off, everything moved enough to put the latch out of alignment. But the whole process was frustrating. I understand not including the latch. But the spindle length is at a specialty level. And replacement spindles are not easy to find. I found one package in stock in one hardware store, and I live in a fairly urban area. And now I know I need to be aware of whether or not the backplates need to be anchored with screws....See Morecooperbailey
