Everything you've described other than the oily-looking film on the eyes sounds like my 2nd grandson, who is now 2 1/2. We thought he would NEVER smile and he seemed to not look at us when he was that age. I can tell you he's a very normal, healthy little 2 year old, so hopefully Brody is just still trying to play catch up.

Ah yes, welcome to motherhood! You'll worry about everything, especially that first year or two before they can start communicating a bit.

I can't tell you if something is wrong or not but I was looking at your website and I thought Brody looked alert and engaged in the pictures. The lack of pooping could be from the soy formula.

I wouldn't worry too much about milestones at this point. Keep an eye on things but don't assume that something is wrong. Each baby has his or her own pace.

Bearcat please don't worry...Brody sounds exactly like my 6 month old grandson. At 2 months he was doing exactly how you describe Brody. He was 2 weeks early and weighed in at 6.4oz. He is now engaged, smiling, "talking", and even though he is not as heavy as the doctor would like (my daughter is going to feed him 3 meals a day now, plus he is breast-feeding)...he is ahead of the curve on everything else! Please try not to worry...and keep us updated on how the appointment went. This is my first grandchild and my daughter has gone through the same things that you are going through. Breathe and try to relax, it only gets better!

Hi all, they just called and moved my appointment up to 11:30 am this morning--1 hour from now. I'll be sure to ask my questions and post how things went! Thanks so much again. Also, in all of Brody's pictures he is always looking left with either his eyes or head. We have noticed that at home from day one.

My oldest son was born at 36.4 weeks. He weighed 5lb 7.5oz at birth and was an apgar of 2! (not good) The only thing we think he suffered in is his growth spurts..he seems to always be behind on them, even now at 16. However, he is now 5' 10", wears a size 11.5 shoe and is just over 200lbs. He's due for one more large growth spurt..but it's slow coming. (I know you are thinking..does he need to grow anymore? lol..but yes..we think he'll top out at about 6'1".

Beartcat, don't borrow trouble, as my grandmother used to say. All babies develop differently. Both my kids were late walkers, well over a year old, and neither one talked for the longest time either. Both grew up just fine, and I found out yrs. ago that I also walked late.
