Comments (5)some lady from a garden center is to come look at the dead river birch that shouldn't have died in 3 weeks, too bad yesterday it was trashed, it had no roots..she was to come 2 days back and didn't, I dont hold breath.. ISsue with magnolia, I had the soil too boggy, the issue is sometime more recently she started losing all her bright right top feeder roots, lower down, they are not white, perhaps they aren't meant to be.. I planted her shallowly as the nursery had her, but even now I see 99% of time, what's in a pot is still too deep..the base, I'm trying to realize the "flare" is a big different... I'm just watching... it's one of my last trees, ya know...I would buy small but have had too much bad luck online places (plus shipping).. but now due to difficulty with strength .. they don't like to sell small.. I don't have the money Ken, I'm obsessed as it's my outlet for dealing with the rest of my out-of-control.. and I used to have a gorgeous yard... and i'm an outside freak, can't be in... always was like that..I've been careless, too much, thinking.. not thinking clearly.. Sorry if I wasn't clear, but all your answers helped a lot, thanks for taking the time..you are very kind! Oh, everyone tells me magnolias don't like clay...but oh well, I can't move another thing to a pot... I've no ... I hate life sometimes, it comes at you and never seems to give you a break.. I guess I deal with "stress" through the garden, until I can't anymore... I love the garden, just...wish I had ...a brain.. THanks again,amy...See MoreKid Damaged Car...Bogus Items On Estimate
Comments (25)Most automobile insurance property damage deductibles are $500 and up. I was rear-ended last year and the guy who hit me wanted me to submit it to my insurance carrier and have them subro against his carrier. No way, why should I make a claim with my insurance carrier that will raise my rates because I was stopped at a red light and the guy behind me didn't stop? Absolute clear liability. Also, with regard to payment of damages - the person suffering damage does not have to use the compensation $$ to repair the car regardless of whether he owns it outright. The purpose of payment is to compensate the owner of the vehicle for the damages, he isn't obligated to fix it. If the car is leased, it will be up to him at the end of the lease to repair the damage or have the lease company charge him for the damage. Do you have a local body shop that would fairly estimate the damage that was done by the rock thrown by your son? I would ask your neighbor to take it and get an estimate for only the damage caused by your son. Will the guy who saw the whole thing happen attest to the damages your son pointed out? Perhaps enlisting his help with enlightening your neighbor as to what damage your son caused will dash your neighbor's hopes of having all of his body work done on your dime....See MoreIs this granite price quote out of line?
Comments (19)I looked at granite at several places: stone yards who did fabrication, so we could walk through and look at slabs that would then be fabricated by them, and eventually found our stone at a dealer, who sold it to the fabricator we wanted. So we knew what the price/square foot of that was...we thought. It went down per square foot the more of it we used. I get that - they had to buy the whole slab and may be left with unpaid for unsaleable remnants of that slab. In any case, for our perimeter, we got Cambrian Black "granite," though I understand from karin_mt that there is no such thing as black granite! The quote looked like this: (edited out for privacy) Then sales tax and total. For this stone, even though we had to use two slabs I think, it was a straight cost/sqft no matter how much we needed, and we did up that square footage at one time. So I guess it can sometimes vary based on slabs needed, how many cuts needed, what kind of edge, and whether it is leathered or not. They were nice enough to tell us, with this caveat, what a simple vs complex equal-amount similar kitchen designs the BALLPARK price per square foot. I figured that was standard once you got down to that level of detail. This post was edited by drbeanie2000 on Fri, Dec 7, 12 at 12:08...See MorePrice seems crazy high for a boiler repair. Comments (26)So, the fun keeps going on this. When the guy was in my house, he did state that it was not urgent to fix my issue immediately - I had a "couple weeks until it would be a huge problem" - his words. I had the water draining to the sump pump and it was only a drip. However, he did a very "hard sell" to get me to sign up for the work. He said scheduling somebody else would be hard and it would need another initial visit if I didn't schedule that day and I might run out of time. I asked if I could cancel if I changed my mind and he said "yes" and I could use that time for other estimates if I wanted to and just cancel and get my deposit (1/2 the job price - $1000) back. We signed the form and sent him on his way. The form has nothing on it about cancellation or refund policies. I called and cancelled this return visit on Thursday - three business days after his visit. (remember this was on Christmas eve) and confirmed I would receive my full down payment back, minus the $85 trip/diagnostic charge. They called me yesterday (Friday) and said I could only have half my deposit back because I need to cancel within three days. The "salesman" said nothing about this in our discussion and neither does our paperwork. Needless to say, they got a bit of an earful from me and the customer service rep said she would go back and discuss with management and get back to me. As a side note, I am still confirming if it applies to this type of work, but there are specific rules about cancelling contracts in Illinois for estimates given by a salesperson in a home. One is that it is always "3 business days to cancel any contract" and the other is that they need to leave me with a copy of paperwork for a cancellation policy. This policy is at http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/threedaycancel.html I will say that my history with company until the last two years had been good. My father always used them and recommended them to me. I used them for years for the basics - annual furnace and A/C checks and they have come out and worked on the boiler and heater a couple other times with basic fixes with reasonable prices. They became bad when I needed a hot water tank replaced. They charged me $1700 and I thought it was a bit high, but I trusted them and didn't want to get other quotes while my family didn't have hot water. After the fact, I checked around and found that I paid more than I should have - I talked to others in the neighborhood who had the same job done (our houses are all similar 60's quad levels built by a single builder who did the subdivision). I shook that one off and now I get this issue. My dad used to say "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me". They will not fool me twice. This company has simply grown very large in the area over the years. I feel they are losing sight of what helped them grow. They lost me as a customer. On the $200 to drill the hole, I get that. You have a specialty saw, you are taking accountability for the granite chipping or cracking, and you probably know if you need to add any extra support prior to drilling to avoid such issues. To make it worth your time to drive out, do the drilling, wear and tear on your tools, etc, $200 or $300 could make sense. I would be fine if they said $500 or $600 to do the basic pluming work for an hour or hour and a half and I get the work guarantee and continue to do business with a company over the years. $2000 is just taking advantage of somebody who thinks they have an emergency problem on their hands. I found a lot of reviews of this same company online just like mine. Some even called out the same first name of the person who came to my house of this situation. Can't be sure it is the same guy, but this is looking fishy. They only have a B rating on Angie's list with over 1600 reviews. I had never even checked until now, again, because of the decent history with myself and my father. All the more reason to be done with them....See MoreBunny
