My foot has finally(almost) healed!

I had a place on my big toe since December from wearing a pair of Crocs' without socks. It rubbed a place on my toe and side of foot and made a blister that I didn't notice. It became infected and went into dry gangrene. That is different from wet gangrene which is very dangerous. I have had the worse time getting this toe healed. I have poor circulation in this left leg. I have had several operations on this leg involving veins, and it is in a mess now,(knee also) and if I had it all to do over again I would not have had ANY surgeries done on my veins. The one surgery that I had done that I believe cause my main problems(I could be wrong) is I had that main artery or vein?? taken out, and since then I have had poor circulation down in my lower legs and feet, toes. Then more surgery to supposedly help that. (which didn't) Anyway, I now only have about a dime size place which needs to heal and this toe will finally be healed!! It is not black anymore and is pink!! Hooray!!!! Back in April they thought they were going to have to take the toe off! I am jumping for joy! Well, almost! Please be happy for me!

Thank you, Thank you, Donna. The nurse had just left when I posted and I was so excited when she took the bandages off I had to post. My toe is so nice and pink! She is leaving the bandages off this weekend. She will be back Monday. I am so tickled.

Yeah, I realized my phal.s were underlit when I read that the leaves should be more like the color of Granny Smith apples! I had always read that they don't need a lot of light, but guess they need more than what I was giving them. I recently had to repot the sad phal. because it fell off the table and came out of the old pot. Should I leave it or put it in a smaller pot? As for the dendrobium, I was using some spray fertilizer that is made from worm castings in H2O that I bought. It is very weak in nitrogen, will that be OK? Should I use this or a granular fertilizer on the phals.? I have used both up to this point. I will try to post some photos if they ever do bloom again! I was starting to think I just didn't have what it took for growing any kind of orchid in AZ.

Agghhhhh! When my new acquired red-fleshed Dragon Fruit produced a stray vine, I promptly cut it and planted it near the mother plant when it was about 8 inches. When I looked at it few days ago, the whole thing was gone! Vanished. I suspected it was one of those darn slugs, I'm sure of it. Fortunately, the mother plant produced another vine that has been planted on a pot and growing lots of roots on the bottom. This time, I'm going to harden and fatten the vine first before I plant it in the same spot near the mother plant.

Thank you, ma'am. I will try not to get too far off topic. Enjoyed watching the Siberian Tiger Nature program! The dahlias have all been cut to the ground. There are veggie beds dug out that can take the stems & leaves but, right now, that dahlia debris can stay in place. It will protect the roots if the Weather Service is wrong about frost. Except that 1 dahlia bed that was left exposed! If the WS changes its story - I'd better get out there and either dig those roots or cover them with a tarp! It would be good if the roots don't have to go down to the basement just yet. The weather is warming and there is finally some rain in our forecast. The basement room where the roots will spend the winter isn't very cool yet and it is a long way until spring. I have taken up the celery root but only because I am not sure how much cold it can take. The carrots are still out there along side the parsnips. But, I trust those things in the cold a lot more than the dahlias. I bet that dahlias can be a little tricky at higher elevations where the temperature swings are more extreme. Steve

Bone spurs on your heel are not bone, but are hard calcium and mineral deposits. These don't belong there, but form anyway. Its not uncommon - a significant portion of the population is affected. These can increase or decrease in size depening on many health factors. The achillies tendon is the usual tendom affected by heel spurs. This tendon is attached on the underside of your foot somewhere aft of the ball of hte foot, goes toward the heel and fans out into a flat ribbon shape, wraps around the heel bone, and then continues up the back of you ankle region and fastens to a large muscle in the calf of your leg. A heel spur may or may not irritate this tendon, but when it does, it is painful. The spur may penetrate or injure the tendon and the recuperation time is long. Hopefully, measures can be taken to re-absorb the spur. However, a lengthy time is required for the tendon to repair. When I had a heel spur injury to the tendon, my doctor advised against surgery and said it was best if the injury could be healed without surgery, because surgery in this area requires the same healing time and care as a broken bone and there is always the risk of infection or other complications, the same as other major surgeries. If it heals itself, the end result is as good as that of surgery.

I learn something new every day! Never heard of dry gangrene. So sorry to hear about your veins. Did you have vericose veins? What can they do if anything to get circulation back to your feet? That's really scary! Take care of that leg and foot and maybe try some massage therapy to improve circulation.

Please take good care of your feet. Are you diabetic? I am curious about your leg surgeries. Were they for circulation problems or varicose veins? Sorry the surgery didn't work for you.

Now, young lady, remember what I said. Take care of those legs/feet!! ;-)

I have vein (artery problems) don't know exactly which. LOL. They kept taking out or stripping out something in my leg because of varicose veins. I have and had really bad varicose veins and had them Dr. stripped them??? been so long ago I can't recall what he called it. Anyways, that was pretty good, and then I was riding on my horse and I fell off pretty good. I got hurt and DH got me in the back of truck and helped me in the house. I begged him not to take me to the hospital.(I have had tooo many hospital stays in my life, LOL) So I lay on the couch for around a week was down in my back. I had a portatoliet so I just got up for that. I just hurt. I developed what they call a thrombopheltis (sp) Anyways, it is a clot in the deep veins of your legs. Then I developed phlebitis. They did surgery on my leg, as I had injured the veins in my leg and did not realize it as my back was hurting more. Actually my back is o.k. now. My leg is what is giving me fits. Also I have inherited vein and artery problems anyway. Do not ask me the name of that. LOL But, everything will come out in the wash...LOL! I am doing fine!

Sorry I do not know your name, but I will say a prayer for your toe to finish healing. I can so relate. I have been hospitalized for amputation of an infected toe, but lucked out and it finally healed. Then the next toe became infected and they were pushing for amputation again. The toe healed buy my stupid, and I do mean stupid, doctor cut the tip off the end of the toe next to that and cut the toenail almost all the way out. Now that is infected. I am diabetic and that dr. should never have touched that toe. All I did was ask if a hard place on the toe was toenail and without a word he went to work and mutilated my toe.
Prayers for you, you have been through a lot and I so want your toe to get better. I know the pain you are in.

Dee, I have not been through anymore than you have and I will also say prayers for you. Feet,toes and legs can be a real problem for anyone who has circulatory problems. Thanks. It is a constant battle. You know, don't you? Sending love....
