FYI--Carrera Marble Look Alikes
Comments (33)pps7-- Thanks for the great pix. I ordered a sample of the Catarina tile. And many thanks to the person who posted the American Olean website link for the tile. That was so helpful. I thought it would be simple to find a Carrera Marble look alike tile but it has been an ordeal! Guess I was looking in the wrong tile stores (about 7 total, with one find that turned out to be discontinued!) **On another note: Where did you get your beautiful medicine cabinet? Is it wood, and do you like the quality? I found one at Pottery Barn online (Hotel is the brand) but can't look at it in person, so would have to buy first. I also saw one at Restoration Hardware but the quality didn't seem top rate. Thanks for any help.**...See MoreHow do I know the slipperiness factor of builder depot honed hex
Comments (2)I would think that the more grout would be good for a kids bath with this marble to help provide traction. Have you thought of using epoxy grout? I read that it is more stain resistant. And I believe Bill V once commented that while epoxy may be over kill in the home setting, if you have pets it would be justified (paraphrased). Kids are like pets aren't they?...;)...See MoreCarrera Marble Tile Discoloring
Comments (38)In addition to Creatives great advice, I would guess Its preslope issues under the "Hot Mop"......A timely continuation of this thread as I am installing A similar hex in my current clients shower. The best thing anyone that wants a tiny hex or any marble shower floor can do is Use a thinbed ( surface applied or Topical ) waterproof membrane. This eliminates a mortar bed that can retain water long term in the event the preslope is inadaquate. You live in the land of the hotmop and along with the hotmop comes a handoff issue. Where the hotmop guy comes in after the carpenter and before the tile guy many times .....there really is no great way to preslope with lumber (yes it can be done) but often times it gets skipped.... now whos to blame?? Im sorry to see you have issues, it looks like a nice shower, if you do resolve to tear it out, request a flood tested "Topical" waterproof shower and be present when the water is drained from the flood test. The inspectors never watch for that........and its a new thread on houzz weekly especially with marble.... In this shower you are seeing A skim coated Surface applied membrane, when the marble gets wet it dries out very quickly as there is no Mass of concrete and sand retaining water ( yet it still requires a proper preslope ). Hope that makes sense - best...See MorePaging person who had the Builder's Depot Calacatta subway sample
Comments (13)Oh darn. I had a whole other post before the one above and it never got posted for some reason. Is that 3 X 6 tile? It looks more like 2 X 4. I think it's too small for that large area, and gets too busy. 4 X 8 would work better there. The pattern of the wood is also similar to the pattern the marble makes. The beige in there doesn't work with the wood color. You said it was too gray, but gray and white works better I think. The plain tile doesn't have enough interest for that large area and it's a long rectanguler shape to try and hang anything over the stove. The statuary marble makes it a focal point and adds interest to that large space over the range....See Moredennisbrownbathroom
