Dazed and Confused--Please help with finishes, etc. (long)
Comments (6)LisaLisa, Thanks! Interesting idea, but I have 400 square feet to cover. There's actually an expensive tile I think is pretty darned gorgeous, but it doesn't go with the countertop tiles I like, and it costs for one eighth of the house half of what I spent 7 years ago on wood plank for three quarters of the house. LOL! Fori, that puts me in mind of the whole conversation here last year about fishtank backsplashes. I always end up feeling sorry for the fish. But I could maybe tune the TV to the fishtank channel :) I hadn't considered anything woodish for the island top, but I think it's between tile and stone. The marmoleum is an interesting idea, however! I would never have thought of that. I also found an interesting place near here when I was researching marmoleum today. They have all kinds of other green materials, as well. I'll check 'em out Monday. I love the pattern of the sample you posted. It has a look almost like Italian marbled paper. (There I go thinking like a fiber artist again!). I can't wait to see the samples in person. I e-mailed the contractor. If he says there aren't any building issues, and I find the right colors, I could carry the pond onto the floor, since lino can be cut any way. Lots easier than the granite hearth I had done as a wandering puddle! :)...See MoreWhat do you think about mixing faucet/hardware finishes?
Comments (5)Thank you all. So the answer seems to be a resounding "yes." Now I have a follow up question. The new window needs hardware and screen. We are painting the window trim similar to the cabinet color (an off white, brookhaven alpine white, which is a little grey). SO, if I go w/ oil rubbed bronze and ss knobs and pulls for the cabinets, should the window hw be stainless or oil rubbed bronze (it is pella, the color is actually "brown," but it seems close enough to the bronze. TIA...See MoreConfused about ceiling paint finish
Comments (1)depends on the state of the ceiling, really - because that's the primary reason behind a flat paint - you can use it on a ceiling because it's not subject to hand prints, and it's good because it hides small flaws that show up on other sheens. but in a bathroom that involves a shower (humidity, etc) I prefer an eggshell that I can wipe down seasonally. by the way - that 'should' is one of those 'decorator's rules'... and decorating is kinda fake by its very nature, and a whole different thing than people living in a space, and making it beautiful as well as functional....See MoreMixed bathroom fixture finish confusion
Comments (2)Thanks enduring! I appreciate the feedback and advice! I had a conversation with someone the other day who told me a story about a woman who changed her front doorknob to oil rubbed bronze.... which led to a new hallway chandelier... which led to new dining room set... which led to new kitchen fixtures and appliances... which led to new counters... and then the bathrooms... and on and on and on. In the end her new doorknob led to a 50k home renovation! After hearing that I decided to stay with brushed nickel in our guest bathroom (whrre the tub is), and ALL the metal trims will be brushed nickel. I am going to use ORB for our master bathroom vanity faucets, lights, and towelbar because the vanity is actually in a separate room from the shower and toilet, separated by a pocket door. The shower and toilet have chrome trims but you never really look at them at the same time as the vanity area. I'll post some pics when its done. Our guest bath tub was just installed and seems to exactly match the brushed nickel faucet we picked out....See Morebluekitobsessed
