I think it's a testosterone thing and I'm glad I'm not exposed to it on a regular basis.

And why is it these same men don't get better at it so all the meat won't look burnt?

And no, it wouldn't 'fly' if the gals did the same thing in the kitchen.

I don't think my husband even knows how to cook on a grill! He never did the cooking when we had one and now we don't have one.

omg thats my ex to a T! wouldnt cook in the house (unless i went on strike and he was starving), but bring his buddies and beer and the BBQ, hed do it everytime...used to, i cant say that here, well im sure you know. he still does it to this day, every sunday, nascar ya know. now he even has to pick up after all the ahem friends (pigs) since im not there to do it anymore! no i dont get it either, god forbid i ever over cooked something in the oven i would never hear the end of it!!

My SIL is a master griller. Nothing makes him happier. He sold BBQ at a new bar in Birmingham the last 2 day. They hired him because their kitchen isn't quite ready. He would love to open his own BBQ restaurant. In the beginning he would ask us for our honest critique and we would tell him, too much salt, not enough heat, etc. Now I have no advice for him. Best BBQ I've ever had anywhere.

He has been hired to cook for 600-900 people on July 4th at a winery.

I guess I should add he can cook in the kitchen as well.

DD says at least with his hobby they don't go hungry.

He uses the grill at least 6 days of the week, year around.
it is truly a guy thing to stand outside watch dinner cook while having a beer.
The patio is his oasis....keeps my kitchen clean, ok by me!!
Also, he goes to stores, just to look at the latest grilling machine at least once a month.
The one we have is a nice gas grill and has lasted over 8 years.

I wish I had that problem. Mine acts like I'm mistreating him if I ask him to grill. :)

I am the one that does all the grilling. DH is totally lost when it comes to cooking meat on the grill. I love to do it all year long. Nothing tastes better then a steak on the grill! Except maybe a rotisserie chicken. Or grilled salmon. Yum!

At our old house, grilling was DH job. He was good at it, hardly burnt anything but it was just one item. Not the entire kitchen.

Now for last 20 years in this house I do the grilling. I got adventuresome too. I grill whole turkey's, whole roast beefs. Beer can chicken is my specialty. I also grill the vegs to go with dinner and even grill pizza bread. YUM>.....

I have to agree that it is a guy thing. I get to grill once in a rare while...if I start it before they clue in, then I can try and tell them to back away from the grill haha.
I just wish they wouldn't cook up everything in site!

Nope, don't have that problem. We both can grill pretty well. I won't eat burnt steak though. It's got to be medium.
Grilling can be kind of fun, I think that's WHY they do it. Now it they had to multi task the whole meal and grill too, it might not be so much fun.
If Dh wanted to grill everyday, I would be quite happy. Unfortunately it's often too windy here to do that.
I might like a pizza once in a while, I'm not sure about putting that on the grill.

The pizza dough is grilled over low, lightly oiled grill... put a little garlic oil and herbs on it, turn when grill marks are on it... then grill other side. You can either then, spread on toppings or bring it in and top it, then pop in oven to melt. Very easy and completely different taste with the smokeyness of the grill. Usually I don't put toppings on it, just the garlic oil and herbs and a touch of salt and pepper, then eat the bread as I side dish. Kinda like Naan.

I do the grilling. My husband doesn't have any desire to do it.

I do the grilling most of the time because DH things everything has to be well done.......I think he learned this from my Mom. Her motto, when cooking meat, was "If it's smoking, it's cooking, if it is black, it is done."

My husband doesn't cook anything, anytime, anywhere.

I'm the one who grills everything. I make entire meals (meat, veggies, potatoes, etc) on the grill, even baking biscuits or cornbread there. I grill fruit for dessert. Have made cakes and yeast breads on the grill. I do the pizza thing, too.

A few weeks back, I grilled breakfast for the entire neighborhood on my grill--French Toast, hash browns, sausage and grilled pineapple
