Pretty quilt.

I think a rag quilt would work. Make your strips 1" wider than you want the strip to be. 2" strips would be good size (3" total). But think about how many seams you are willing to clip. You could rag each block as you make them so it's easier to handle.

Good luck...that's a lot of seams!

Doris if it was done the raggy way I should think 2-1/2" strips would work. Thats a neat quilt thanks for the picture.

After making my first jean quilt, family members have donated their jeans to my cause. I've collected quite a few.

I was thinking of doing it without ragging too, but didn't want to tie it.

This one would be great for those old stone washed jeans to get the light half of the log cabin.

I think I neeed to collect more of those.

I think it would too heavy to work with. I made a twin rag and by the end my shoulders where just killing me.

I like the denim ragged myself. It has a cozy look to it.

When you said maybe foundation piece itÂDo you mean like on one big whole cloth, and then that would be the back?? IÂve never done that but maybe it could work??? I think it would probably be easier to make each whole block and then attach each to a foundation? I can picture doing the first row, but after that IÂm lost. Wait - actually if you made rows and then attached each row to a foundation/backing, yea, I do think that would work. Sorry, IÂm not a huge help there.

Or, I donÂt know for sure, but if you pieced it all like a usual log cabin top and used a heavy backing, with no batting, maybe you could "tie" it with just a few machine stitches at each block intersection. IÂm thinking with the weight of the top and the weight of the backing they would sort of stick together during use without much shifting?? Just a thought.

Or, last thoughtÂYou could piece each block and only rag the block to block seams.

The volunteer sewing group I belong to made a couple of these and we did not rag them. We did use a couple of different shades for the contast of light and dark as we couldn't come across as many jeans in the exact shade we needed. Be warned the quilt is heavy when done but very striking to look it. Budster
