Pansies don't like the heat. You can keep them blooming while it is cool if you dead head them. Don't let any seed heads form - clip every bloom once it is finished. ( I dead head all my annuals to keep them blooming)

Cut them back when the heat comes on and keep them in a cooler spot out of the sun. They will bloom again when it cools down in the fall.

Fertilize!!!! I use a time release fertilizer in all my potted plants. I put a lot of annuals in the ground also and add a healthy dose of the fertilizer to those also. Osmacote is my favorite brand.

Water your plants every day when it gets really hot. Don't just give them a sprinkle - soak that pot!! Try not to water on top of the foliage - but stick that hose under the folage and water until it runs out the bottom of the pot. (Well drained plants are a must - don't let them sit in water!) If you use clay pots and it is extremely hot and dry, you may have to water more than once a day.

Dead head faithfully. Once a flower looks spent - cut it off. Geraniums will bloom better if you cut or pinch back that stem once the petals start to drop. Cut back any annuals that get really leggy for a fuller plant with more blooms. I just wacked back a bunch of wave petunias. They were pretty full when I bought them in early May. After repotting and enjoying them for a month - I have cut them back. Within a couple weeks they will be nice and full again and look fantastic for the rest of the summer. A light cut back in August will keep them looking nice into the fall.

I am a famous plant killer in my house~~I turned to succulents~~having very good luck with them. Even going to venture out and buy a big, round tall, ceramic planter I saw at CostCo. I will do a largr mix of succulants in it;)

I live in Southern Cali, inland so the heat can really ruin flowers~~I also have allergies so we do not do flower plants ever.

I was going to say the same as Iowagirl. We grow Pansies in the winter here. I guess they might do well in the fall or spring for you.

We moved into our current home the last week of July 2002. I brought many plants with me from our previous home - hostas, rhododendrons, forsythia, wiegelia, spirea, lady's mantle, a trumpet vine, rose of sharon, spider wort, a couple different groundcovers and probably some others that I cannot recall right now. The poor honeys had to wait about 4-5 days before I could get them in the ground and they all survived and are now thriving. I didn't know how they would do given they were put in the first week of August! I am near Buffalo NY and my spring blooms have been stupendous this year!
