There is chapstick, and there is chapstick moisturizer. I use the moisturizer type.

I have very dry skin and lips, and a dermatologist once told me to use Carmex lip moisturizers. I get the one in a tube like lipstick instead of the little jar you have to stick your finger in. My very favorite though is Burt's Bees products. They come in lots of flavors and make my lips feel so good.

second for carmex! i have used it for 30+ years and it's addictive....lol

Before using any medicated lip balm (I happen to like Blistex), first try to remove the flaky skin by using a face cloth or toothbrush. Any balm will work much better.

My dermatologist told me about CortiBalm, made by Dr. Dan's. I love it! I asked my pharmacy to order it, no problem. I also went to their website and they sent me free samples. I have eczema flare ups on my lips so this was a wonderful find.

I apply vicks every night before going to bed. Never had chapped lips. Feels so good.

I'll try the Vicks tonight. I think I bought a lip kit from Mary Kay last year, consititing of two products-a lip exfoliator and a lip balm. Must look for it. My lips are burning right now, I just ate lunch. Thanks to all who responded!

chapped lips! Here are a few different tips to try:

Dab Vaseline on your lips, take an old toothbrush and rub the vaseline gently over your lips. Doesn�t hurt ;) .
Rub the gel from a cracked open vitamin E gel capsule on your lips.
Try rubbing sesame oil or olive oil on your lips.
Chapped lips can also be helped by keeping yourself well hydrated�drink lots of water!

Bag Balm (in a green square can) might help. Though be warned, it's an acquired smell. :-)

Often commercial chapstick type lip balms have drying agents in them. Use the simplest thing out there like vaseline or bag balm. And don't forget to put it on before you go to sleep at night.

My 2 preferred brands are Blistex and ChapIce, made by Oral Labs. I like the medicated kind. I have them all over the house and can lay my hands on one in 2 seconds, 'cause I'm addicted to having smooth, moisturized lips, but I don't like lipstick.

The absolute best thing you can do is to keep hydrated. I know you are on dialysis, but you really need to drink lots of water.

Next is almond or olive oil. Almond oil will work best of the two, but you probably already have the olive oil in the kitchen.

Jae_tn commented that chapstick type stuff is addictive, LOL. Well, it REALLY is. I had a young friend, since passed on, who's cancer dr. TOLD her that chapstick is addicting!

If you like, adding a few drops of lemon or lime juice to your water will greatly help in hydrating your body, and you won't have to drink quite as much as you would other wise. It helps your body absorb the water it needs.

You are actually DE-HYDRATED if your lips are chapped this time of year, or if you are sick, when there is no cold weather to help cause the chapping.

Lately I have been using Aquaphor, but prior to that I used Carmex and like it too. Chapstick is a waste of time, IMHO.

I ue lots of different lip balms, but once they get bad I use Carmex or medicated Blistex. I think Carmex is better. I am not dehydrated (I drink well over 100 ounces of water a day). I breath through my mouth when I sleep.

Back when I had issues with chapped lips I found Blixtex to be the best for me. I like the tube version. No matter how sore it didn't bother them to apply it and was so soothing once on. Plus it worked well. Didn't have to keep applying it like the stick stuff. Haven't had need for it now for probably 15-20 years at least. Probably should throw out what's in the grooming kit & vanity drawer!

What do I do to get chapped lips? Kiss a lot of boys!

I've used Vaseline most of my life, though I'm sure it's not good for me. :) My mom did the same thing and one of my dds has the same problem and uses Carmex. I don't think it's just a matter of dehydration for some of us.

I like Burt's Bees or plain vaseline or plain Chapstick (the black wrapper one, it doesn't wear off as fast as the others).

The biggest trick for me is to stay hydrated. As soon as I'm dehydrated, my lips always feel dry. I chug water.

I use blistex most of the time. A drug store had them on sale for 49 cents and I think I bought 10 of them. I have them all over now. I have nasal problems so I breathe through my mouth a lot and I think that is why I always have chapped lips. Could it be because I am full of HOT AIR?

Stayng hydrated is a balancing act for me, I can't drink a lot between dialysis treatments. Docs have ordered me to dring less than 40 ounces of liquids a day, and that includes stuff like fruit,rice,jello, and of course beverages. If I go over, I put on too much "Water Weight", which is bad for my heart. . My sister the Pharmacist told me to use vaseline at night, any type of chapstick during the day. I have Burts Bees with real beeswax.

I just picked up the greatest lip treatment at dollar general. Its called aqua fina and its awesome. Kind of has a camphor smell but I only have to use it every 3 days and my lips are so soft. $1.12 and I just went and got one for next winter just in case they discontinue it. I also picked up a tube of their shea butter lotion. Stay tuned!

I'm a carmex fan too and now it comes in a lipstick type tube and I use it as the top layer over my lipstain! It's really glossy and my lips never get dried out..
