Finally decided on a sink!!

I've gone back and forth between a white fireclay farmhouse sink, a silgranit sink, and a copper farmhouse sink. Well although I love the farmhouse sinks, hubby & I decided to just go with the Silgranit BlancoPrecis Undermount sink 513-414 in Cafe Brown. This is a small kitchen that we are just updating a bit...not our dream kitchen by any means so we couldn't justify spending the $700-$1200 on a farmhouse sink.

We bought the Silgranite sink for $294 w/ free shipping.

We ordered a Price Pfister Marielle Stainless Steel Faucet T34-PTSS...got it for $147

Ideamom, I know it was really a hard decision for you, that cafe brown is really pretty, I'm sure it's going to look totally superb and your going to love it!

I suggested just going deeper on the stove wall because with the hood breaking up the line, it would not feel visually too full. You could do the reverse and put it on the other side, now that I think about it more. If you prep a lot on the stove side, it would feel more spacious to put the deep ones on the other side. I am also a big fan of open shelving as it makes a visual statement and also makes reaching things easy. It saves money and preserves flexibility. If you went with deeper cabs on the fridge wall and did open shelves on the stove wall, it would maximize natural light and air flow. You could even have shelves wrap the corner for a very nice look. I was not crazy about the deeper cabs only on the end. That exposes the sides of 2 cabs and does not gain you much. If you went with more deeper cabs, then you will notice the storage difference. FWIW, I like bbtondo's layout for the fridge. It serves to make the chokepoint seem less a problem and since you have plenty of counter space, you would gain storage in the tall cab without losing function. You also have a good distance between the stove area and the wall opposite, so you would not be crowded when cooking. If you could still recess the fridge, I'd consider that a great idea.... if not, it is still a contender.

I put in Maui medium- dark with a equal double bowl integrated white sink in my mom's house..I love it and miss it..(we moved) it has been done for over 10 years and I think it all still looks great. I still rub my hands across the counters when I walk in that kitchen. The cabs are light stained Maple. I love the integrated sink..zero seams smooth and easy to wipe down. Soft scrub and a green scrubby are your friends. This was taken right after the counters were installed. There is now a half glass tile backsplash. Goes to the height of the window on that wall. Hi everyone! I am sorry for disappearing. Valin - you were kind enough to share that photo, then what do I do but slack on the response time, just like the last person! I just got unbearably overwhelmed again and needed to take another break. Valin- your island is lovely. Thanks so much for sharing the pic. I am liking this idea of aligning the island with the beam instead of crossing it the other way. To expand on Celtcs idea, I've been thinking of turning the "island" into a penninsula that would be anchored to that wall that the china cabinet was going to be up against. Are there any reasons I shouldn't do this? It would block off traffic from in front of the fridge over to the other side of the kitchen, but, then I could make the penninsula a bit longer thus gaining one more bar seat possibly plus another base cabinet. I really don't think I need a direct line from the fridge to that area, anyways. The only thing I can't figure out is, if I were to keep it 4 feet from the fridge, then how would I handle that wall opening into the PR/future DR since the penninsula would run into that space, widthwise. I seem to have 3 options: -Make the doorway smaller so that the penninsula is completely anchored to the wall and none exposed. -Open the doorway up more so a good 2 feet of penninsula is exposed with the barstools behind the wall along with the overhang. -Leave it the way it is, and just have a foot of the penninsula showing I could move the penninsula back towards the windows so it is perfectly aligned with the wall there, but then the barstools would be crowding up the other side of the kitchen and I do still want an eat-in area there. What do you all think? I hope I explained myself well. If not, I can attach pictures.

Prep sink cabinet size for trash pullout

I know that I can get a small trash pullout, but I'm wondering what size sink base I would need to accommodate the smallest trash pullout, as well as plumbing and gd. I don't need much since our main trash/recycle will be next to main sink. The maximum size sink base I can use is 21", but would rather go smaller to add space elsewhere.

I love the that color silgranit and almost chose it. It sounds like you got a fantastic price. Hope it will make you happy for years to come. One thing about it, that's an unusual sink, I think it will be the source of many complements.
One more thing, be sure to check out your sink completely when it arrives. I got mine online too, but it sat in storage for several months, before it was installed. I didn't have any problems, but there are others here who discovered problems too late to return their sinks.

Ideamom, glad to see you decided on the cafe brown silgranit sink. Should look great with your granite. I was looking at a expensive fireclay before I made the switch to silgranit. Now, if I can make a final decision on the cabinets and get this rolling....sink is still in the garage waiting.

Wow! Where did you buy the sink and faucet? Great deals. I went looking at farmhouse sinks at a local plumbing store, saw the Rohl and Whitehaus sinks, asked for a price on the Elkay 30-inch SS sink and they came back with $3,000 price. I told them that's way out of line! I still haven't decided what sink to go with :-(.

Good to hear that you're making progress, though.

Karena_2009: I got the Silgranit sink from QualityBath off of ebay. They have a website too, but they had it listed cheaper on ebay plus ebay gave an 8% coupon that I used. If you are an ebay buyer check your myebay to see if you have a coupon too. It expires Apr. 28th.

I got the faucet at DecorIsland.com

I'm a big internet shopper, so I just search to find the best prices and pay NO TAX and usually get free shipping!

Great job! I really like the looks of the Marielle sink faucet. I think more and more I'll be shopping on the Internet, too, as the tax can really add up especially here in California.

Ideamom, we're getting the Silgranit in cafe brown too - but I'm too embarrassed to tell you how much we're paying...I should have done a little more digging for a better price!

Got my double silgranit on eBay too for $319 total. Got the Grohe Lady Lux Cafe faucet for $400 total. I should have checked to see if I had any coupons. :-(

Talking about coupons, did you know you can buy Lowe's coupons on eBay? Good for 10% off, up to $5000. I hear you can use them at Home Depot too. You don't need the coupon for the cabinets. They are 10% off thru 5/3.

Yeah I actually did know that you could buy coupons off of ebay.

I'm shopping for the best price on the Whirlpool Refrigerator now and see that Lowe's is offering 10% off any Energy Star appliances...through Apr. 28th I believe.
