Seeking hardware color suggestions ... Maple Cabinets :) ?
Comments (4)Oh, I like Lukkiirish's pulls! They look great. You're right about the chrome, but I think it's the shininess that doesn't go with the cabinet finish more than the color. ORB should be fine, but you don't want your husband to think your new house looks weird. Maple itself has a pinky cast to it, and that comes through even in your stained ones. That's why a warm bronze tone looks good. But contrast is good too! Have you tried brushed nickel? Don't worry about the faucet. It has enough pride of place to stand on its own....See MoreShould I paint 1950s maple cabinets white?
Comments (41)I'll answer first and then read the other posts. Pretty sure that you don't want to hear this, but I wouldn't be so quick to paint the cabinets and rip out the counters, especially not to get another "creamy white with granite or butcher block" (a look which I love, BTW). Once you've painted, there's no return without lots of work, not to mention how much work it'll be to do a decent paint job. I'd paint the walls (probably off white) and add vinyl floor tiles with a checker pattern or some checks n for starters. You have this cool booth, and I'd play that up. I love, love turquoise and would pick more shades of turquoise in accessories and also in that booth (white and a watery aqua, for example, or add a coral to the mix). Oh, and I'd get different window treatments. Lastly, if you remove that one wall cabinet, could you add a hood? Of course, it depends on what you like and what the rest of your house looks like. More info on the link below. Looks like they actually stripped their white cabinets to get the maples back. Comments (17)I hope I am not too late - you have probably painted by now or maybe you are still living with paint swatches on the walls. But we have the same problem but ours is because the whole house has orangey wood ceilings. Every paint colour I pick out reacts very strangely and it has taken an awfully long time to come up with ones that work. We also have strong S. Cal sunshine which washes some colours out too. So for the LR/kitchen what has worked is Farrow and Ball Off White - a grey/green off white - almost a pale khaki. You can order a sample off their website for $7 I believe. It looks great - changes with the light but is a great neutral. For one bedroom we have BM Azores which also looks good but it is a fairly small room so looks a bit gloomy - we are going to repaint with C2 Bella Donna which is a light greyed down lavender. I think BM must have one too and I think P&L has a nice one called Gentility. It seems to counteract all that orange. For another bedroom we have Silver Sage but I don't think it works - looks too minty and almost fluorescent; but right now I cannot be bothered to repaint it. Hope this helps!...See MoreIkea butcherblock - how to get that great orangey red color?
Comments (23)Mix a bit of an aniline dye (nontoxic, and has no smell like regular solvent-based wood stains) in with the first coat of Waterlox. I use these dyes regularly for matching wood colors in my old house, and love them. They are totally inert and won't affect the Waterlox consistency like other wood dyes -- they're like food color for wood, Carla! ;-) Alternately, you can mix them with plain water for a first color wash before Waterloxing, in order to bring out the grain - just sand gently with 220 sandpaper to get the raised nubs off before using the Waterlox. You can get Transtint in all sorts of colors including a Medium Brown or Dark Vintage Maple that might achieve the color you want. I think you're going to have to experiment a bit first, no matter what you do. Have fun! Here is a link that might be useful: Transtint dyes...See More- 11 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
