Am I being a total cheapskate, or will this work?

Okay, the budget is getting slim. Still have to do the backsplash, and I wanted to have the electrician come and wire for under cab lighting before the backsplash goes in. But I still have so many other things to do in the house and I have to sacrifice something. I was thinking of buying those battery-operated puck lights that just stick up with adhesive tape. You know, the kind you press on to turn them on? Well, is that a totally cheapo alternative that will be tacky, or would it work and no one would be the wiser since you really don't see the lights (and I will be hopefully adding a light rail to the bottom of the cabs to help hide the lights). Would it produce okay lighting? I really just need it for task lighting. Or do I spend the money on having the electrician do the lighting work, and try to find somewhere else to cut back? Really hoping my idea is okay, because there's not too many other places I can cut back...What do you think?
