difference between Renei victoria and la reine victoria
Comments (11)One of the advantages of this Bourbon is that it does not mind being pruned-it will give you more rebloom if you prune frequently. Reine Victoria is a long caned Bourbon and is very apical dominant-the tip bud supresses the side laterals-it really responds to pegging(pulling the tip down to supress it) and pruning so you can keep it smaller if you want. I nip away at mine all during the summer reshaping the bushes all along. Feed them well since they keep blooming. I see no difference in vigor between the two. I would chose MPO of the two because the flower is more unusual but that is me. I do love the cupped roses. patricia...See MoreAster Victoria Series- Any experiences?
Comments (5)Well, after a day of looking, and finding little, I managed to come across the Patent info somewhere online...I posted to some other thread...oops. I'm sure I could find it again if I looked. Anyway, they are a short one- only getting 20" high, and according to a pic on the home website, they look almost like more of a ground-spreader than an upright 20". (I'm looking at that pic of the side of the porch) the bloom is small but significant...about 1.5-2" I'd say without having it in front of me. Hold on, lemme see if I can find that link again. Here it is. Fanny's there, too, somewhere This link HERE is the home page link with lots of pretty pix. That one down there is the Patent link with Plant Specs. It sounds as though it might need a good mulching to survive in Z5 Here is a link that might be useful: Victoria Series Aster- This one's for Elizabeth...See MoreGTA Central/East Tailgate Garden Swap May 22nd (Victoria Day)
Comments (138)Ciao all, I hope everyone had a great day out in the garden today. I know it's a back to work day for most people, but my goodness, what glorious weather to be outside. Thanks to all of you for such interesting trades and also for your knowledge and wisdom regarding perennials. I have SO much to learn about them still, thanks for your patience in answering my newbie questions. Tristan grabbed some things from the middle circle which I have no clue regarding the names of the plants or what sort of care they need, so as soon as I'm able, I'm hoping to post some pictures of them for ID. I'm so excited about all the lilacs! They're small, but I know they'll fill that space nicely and I can't wait to discover what colours they turn out to be. I put the dahlias in full sun and just barely covered the root/tuber/rhizome thingies. I hope that's what they need. Tomatoes/eggplants/peppers/tomatillos/basil all got a full day outside and tomorrow will be their first major dose of full sun. I'm hoping to get them in the ground before the weekend. Duane finished 2 additional tomato beds as a birthday present for me and got all the 8' stakes in this morning. The soaker hoses are all in place and now it's just a matter of waiting a few days for the plants to get fully hardened off. Big hugs to all of you, I wish the weather had been more pleasant but it was still a very fun event and thanks again to sydseeds for organizing the swap and for everyone's wonderful enthusiasm and generosity. Get planting everyone!! Julianna...See MoreWhat did you plant this year that you will definitely plant again
Comments (32)Something I propagated this year were 18 cuttings from my Walker's Low catmint. The other day I decided to look at them to see if they had rooted and 3 out of the 4 I looked at had really nice big healthy roots so I transplanted them into the garden. I think most of the others will have roots as well but it started pouring rain so I quit! Yah, I'm a wimp, but the mosquitoes came out full force when it started raining. I'll definitely take more cuttings next spring as I'd like to edge some of the beds with it, especially my rose garden....See MoreHolly- Kay
