Canon cameras?

I love the Canon products. I have Canon printer, scanner and camera. And I love them all. My camera has died though and I want to replace it. My sister said that she has two friends who own Canon 12 mega-pixel cameras and their photos are awesome.

Do any of you know anything about these camera?

I'm planning to buy myself a camera for Father's Day since Jammer got a John Deere mower for Mother's Day. LOL

I love my Canon cameras!

My camera is a 7 mega pixel with a 12X optical zoom.

The mega pixel count isn't as important as good optics and good sensors (Canon has that) - anything over 4 megapixel is going to give you good pictures.

12 megapixel would be important if you were doing HUGE sized pictures - like wall mural size.

Find out what kind of Canon it is - there are tons.

Are you looking for a Point & Shoot - or DSLR camera like the Rebel?

I have the Canon S3IS and love it. I bought it last July before we went on vacation to upgrade from an older Fujifilm FinePix. I didn;t want to spend a lot of $$$ and this fit the bill. It's a great camera, pretty easy to use, and the photos are superb.

I would rule out the one without the viewfinder. The area doesn't match well on our G10, but still a good option in bright sunlight no matter how good the LCD!!! LuminousLandscape.com is another good place for reviews. If it's too technical, don't worry, skim it and get to the conclusion Canon has a nice trade-in policy. When our G3 lens wouldn't pop out anymore, they offered a G10 for not that much more money than the repair. It didn't make sense not to as the G3 was too long in the tooth - worst part was it couldn't focus fast enough even on a slow moving pet. Just dropped it and the LCD is kaput. I'm wondering if I could upgrade to the new G12 when I send it in....

You are righ; Canon does not supply a manual with the PowerShot SX50 HS camera. Here'e what I did: I downloaded the manual from Canon's web site - all 285 pages in pdf format. I double sided printed the manual choosing the option that gave me a print zone of approximately 4 1/8 by 5 11/16 inches. Since double sided printing can get messed up, I broke the job into pieces printing a range of pages for example, printing 1 - 20 pages in the first batch, and then print 21 - 40 pages for the next batch, etc. Be careful to choose page ranges that ends with the the last page on the backside of the sheet (an even numbered page). Doing the job in sub-batches allows you to refill the sheet feeder when it gets low and to abort a batch in case of a foul up. The printout came out double sided on full sized pages and the front and back side print zones were perfectly aligned with each other. Next, I took the printout to my friendly Office Depot store to finish. They trimmed the sheets leaving a small border around the print zone and about 5/8 border on the left side for binding. I had my pages punched and bound with substantial plastic sprial material. This permits the book to be opened and folded back on itself. Office Depot added heavy translucent front and back covers. These covers protect the pages and keeps them from curling. I am very pleased with the results. The cost for the bindery was about $6. Office Depot could have bound the pages with adhesive like a paper back book, but I chose the spiral binding to allow the book to open flat and to turn back on itslef. It makes a nice field guide. The downloaded file can be printed to full letter size to make an office reference copy, however, I find that is not needed so long as I have the smaller camera bag copy.

I always suggest not using any of the extra software that comes with cameras it is rarely needed and just adds more clutter and takes up space on the hard drive. It is so easy to just use the memory card and the memory card slot on the pc or if it does not have a memeory card slot pick up a usb memory card reader they are very cheap. Then just move the pics from the card right to the folder of your choice on the pc. My guess is that the software is not compatible with windows 7 64 bit if that is what the new pc is.

I was Searching for info on the same problem. My little Nikon digital won't open the lens COVER all the way. So it shuts down in a few seconds. Did not drop it, but the one year warranty expired almost a year ago. Had a similar problem with a older Nikon I did drop a few feet (not on the lens) and the lens cover did not always open up, but this newer Nikon (6100?) displays lens error 100% of the time. I tried charging the battery all the way, spraying compressed air gently into the area, and using a vacuum for suction. Nothing improved it. My opinion of extended warranties is that they are a money maker for the vendor, and often not a good buy. But in small cameras with a longer lens (7x digital on up, maybe) they might be worth the money. Not sure that sending it off for repair would be worth the money. Camera was only $170 back then, maybe $100 today with the same features. Open to suggestions

I just got a little Canon SD750 Elph and love it! Takes fabulous pictures and has lots of nifty features.

I'm liking my new Canon too....

It's the Rebel XT. I've been afraid of it...but I find it can be a point and shoot or I can try to learn all the other things about it too.

It's taking great pictures....

I've just got to learn what makes a great picture.

iowagirl, I really don't know much about the DSLR cameras, so I guess I better do lots more research. I just mentioned to my sister than I was going to buy a new camera and I wanted another Canon. She has an Olympus and said she thought it took great pictures until she saw her 2 friends pictures. They were awesome, so she ask them what type of camera they had and both just said Canon 12 mp. I'll get her to ask them more about which camera it is. I'll also check out the others that you all have suggested. I just want to hurry up and get one! I hate to be without a camera.

Of course my clothes dryer wouldn't work this morning, so I may be shopping for a dryer before the camera. :(

I just got a Cannon A720, however, I have not used it yet.Need to study the book and haven't had the time. I went to the photograpy forum and posted a question and and when I saw the pictures he had taken I was sold. He also said I really didn't need 12 mp for what I wanted.

I'm sold on canon. Been using canons for more years than a lot of have been alive. LOL Now I have a rebel xt with 4 extra lens,and just got a ioos, which does a good job. My kids borrow my rebel so I needed one to keep at home.
NEED I SAY MORE TO PLUG CANON.

I love Canons, too. I've had 2 Canon Elphs and they've been wonderful little cameras. I have a Canon all-in-one printer, too.

My DH has Canons at his print shop.

DGD#2 got a new Polaroid last Sunday for her trip. She's had several cameras and spent a long time picking this out and had a lot of questions for the clerk. It has the 8 mega whatever that is. Of course, it was one of the more expensive ones and I was paying!! She loves it.

A vote here for Canon, too! I have the Digital Rebel XTi and my purse cam is a Elph SD450. Both very nice!

Don't forget to look at Nikon. Their sensors seem to deliver the best color in the business. I currently have a Canon 2 IS. It is a good camera for average use and the lens is the best in its class.

I dunno about the P&S Canons, but the new XSI is 12mp....

Don't make the mistake of getting sold with megapixels though. With average printing, 6 mp is more than enough.

If their 12mp cameras take awesome pictures, then it has more to do with lens quality and the person behind the camera than megapixels...

There are people on a canon forum I go to that SWEAR by their 6mp Rebel XT. Its a good camera for the money from what I understand. i personally own the XTI, and it was love at first click....I'm a canon guy now! :)

Happy hunting, and PRIORITIZE.....get yaself a piece of rope and some clothes pins...hang a load out to dry, and go camera shopping! :)

Ashelton - is the XSI the Rebel with a SD card format? I think I read that somewhere. Cool camera!!!!!
