Anyone see Eleanor Roosevelt on PBS?

I watched most of the American Experience show on Eleanor Roosevelt last night and was surprised to find how little I knew about her, particularly her terribly difficult childhood.

Her mother was cruel about Eleanor's looks, although the photos showed a sweet looking little girl, hardly ugly. Her mother called her "Granny," and was appalled that she had produced a child of so little beautyÂbeauty being tops on her list of desirable qualities.

Eleanor found love and acceptance with her father, and adored him. But he was an alcoholic, and was committed to an asylum for the insane. Shortly thereafter, her mother died of diphtheria.

Her father was released from the asylum, and promised Eleanor that he would make a wonderful life for them. She clung to that, but it was determined that he was unfit to raise her, and she was taken away from him, and sent to live with her mother's mother, in a house where two crazy uncles lived and fired their guns at the neighbors and at Eleanor. She was eight years old.

Anyone else see the documentary?
