Updating 70's-80s contemporary house

Hi,

I'm considering purchasing a contemporary home built in 1981. You know the look: reddish unstained cedar siding, angled lines, lots of windows. I love the layout of the house, and I like the relatively clean lines and open space, but I feel like the exterior is really dated and I'm not quite sure how to fix it. Any general suggestions on how to modernize the exterior from homes of this era? One thought would be the replace the siding (Hardiboard?) or stain it (something less red?), but I'm not sure how that would look either.

Open to any and all suggestions!
