I always freeze leftover rice. It's so easy to defrost. I often just put it in a colander or a bowl and run hot water over it. The grains separate easily and quickly. Then it's easy to reheat in the microwave, either alone or with other food that you might be reheating.

Good morning to you, Satine. I actually make extra rice while I'm making it for dinner just so I can freeze it. I measure the cooked rice out in 2 c. batches and seal them. Like Jasdip said, it separates easily and reheats in just a few minutes in the microwave. The use it as you suggested or put it in soups or casseroles that call for already cooked rice. It's my favorite time-saver.

I freeze rice and have some in the freezer now, cooked rice that is.

Always in a plastic bag that I press all the air out and flatten the rice.

Just thraw and add to soups, etc.

I use leftover rice for meatloaf. It can be cheesy rice, veggy rice, cajun....whatever.

Then I season my meatloaf accordingly!

I make a big pot of rice specifically to freeze...I love the convenience of grabbing a package out of the freezer and it's ready to go..especially brown rice....thawing isn't an issue either....I nuke it.. or run hot water over it in a sieve or dump in in a recipe I nearly always have rice in the freezer...learned this back in my OAMC days.......

I usually keep mine in a yogurt container. Later this week I plan on taking a couple of containers out of the freezer as well as some chili that I have frozen. We each like different kinds of chili; I don't like kidney beans, so I eat a Texas-style chili that has no beans but packs a lot of heat. He likes the chili with beans. So we have our chilis to eat over rice.

I prefer storing in a margarine or yogurt tub to dragging the stuff out of a plastic bag when ready for reuse.

After putting it into a bowl, I just stick it into the microwave, sometimes adding some milk or water first, possibly some (usually brown) sugar and/or raisins/dates.

I have been freezing rice for years. I always make a pot full (electric rice cooker) and then bag it in individual servings in zip lock plastic bags. Make sure you don't overcook it ~ you don't want melted plastic in your rice. I usually cook if about one minute. take it out and squish it around a little to redistribute the cold and warm rice and put it back in microwave for another 30 to 40 seconds. There is always rice available, esp. if my DD wants to cook something for herself. Remember,I live in Hawaii and my DH is Hawaiian, Chinese so we eat a lot of rice.

make sure you get the extra air out before closing & freezing it because that keeps the bag from filling with air when nuking and bursting open.

I just put the Ziploc bag with frozen rice in a bowl of hot water.

I had never thought about freezing rice, but that would be a great timesaver.

I make breakfast burritos with rice in them and freeze them. :0)
