You can potentially save some money by this if you use a lot of foil or plastic wrap. Right now, a box lasts me for years and the other problem for me is I don't have a bar supply around that I know of. I imagine shipping would be outrageous to buy online.

But there are a couple other nice things about the commercial products. Sometimes it's slightly heavier weight so it's easier to work with and is stronger. Also the plastic wrap often is wider and that can be very nice for a lot of uses.

Thanks for the tip Azzalea, I know there's a bar supply not too far from here. I especially like the idea that it might be wider than regular wrap. Reynold's Wrap used to sell a wider wrap in the winter with snowflakes on it to use to wrap baked gifts. I used to buy several boxes then but they've discontinuted it. BJ's sells my favorite- Stretch Tite in a 500 sq.ft.roll. I'll have to check it out.

I meant to mention that--yes, the commercial boxes are much wider, too.

As to bar/restaurant supplies--you may not know where one is, but they're all over. I'd be willing to bet there's one in your area. They are often in obscure locations (rarely at the mall--LOL) Just check your yellow pages. I buy lots of things there. Prices are good, and I like the quality of professional equipment. Usually much better than the utensils and so forth that are manufactured for home use.

My drawer that I keep them in is very shallow - it is under my pullout cutting board. So I am always looking for the smaller boxes.

I just bought a box of Reynolds plastic wrap. I am liking it - it has a lot on the roll - but it is a smaller box. I think they may those cardboard rolls huge sometimes just to make you think you are getting more.

I use the commercial sized box of alum. foil in a concession stand that I help with - it does seem like it will last forever! It is pretty thin stuff though. Do they make any heavy duty foil?

My mom has been using one of those large boxes of plastic wrap, literally for years. I've never gone out and bought one because frankly, I don't want to store the gargantuan thing! It is not easy to lift out of its storage space.

Instead, I have these nifty little holders that I bought on-line. I can attest to how easy it is to pull and snap off the right amount and get this: it never gets twisted or unravels! I'd never change out these beauties, and people ask me where I got them all the time (I'm including the link). Scroll down the page and read the reviews. I will have to check this out- I just bought 200 ft of Alum. Foil at the store on Monday. It was over $7.00. Yowza! Now it will last me for months but still...

Super Walmart carries "Sam's Choice Premium Wrap (plastic wrap) it says something about industrial strength on the box and it is really good stuff!I have been buying it for a long time now, it sticks better than the name brand stuff. Its NOT the larger industrial size rolls but it seems to last me a long time, I use it pretty much every night for leftovers.

I've been using those industrial size foil and plastic for years. The first foil one I bought lasted thirteen years for me. I think the quality of the plastic and foil is better than what they sell at the grocery stores.

I do hate the cumbersome storage aspect to them. I have to store them in the lower undercounter cabinets and pull them out to use. If I did not have ceramic tile walls in my kitchen I would make something built into the walls to hold them, so that the foil/plastic can be just pulled out over the counter to use.

These larger sizes are so much more available these days that I am amazed that new home construction does not offer a built in storage for these things.

I buy it at Sam's, too. It does save alot of $$$.

I have a stainless steel, professional workbench in my kitchen, and at the moment they're just stacked up at the very back of it. However, I'm thinking, when I have some work done on my kitchen, I may get the carpenter to build a couple of cradles for them on the back of the island. Something that would hold them in a way that I could just reach down and grab/dispense what I need.

As to price? I'm really not sure. You see, my husband put them in my Christmas stocking (okay, so they didn't really fit IN the stocking) a couple of Christmases back. Whatever they cost, though, it's got to be way cheaper than the many rolls I normally go through.

As to the thinness of the foil--yes, it's thinner, but it seems to hold up as well as thicker varieties. I haven't had any problems with it being too thin for anything I've used it for.

I have a roll I have used for over 25 years and it still looks full' I have it hanging in a corner of my kitchen counter.
