Steph, I use Saran® wrap when I can find it. It works a lot better for me than the Glad® wrap brand.

I remember which one to get by thinking "Glad® makes me mad!"

Be careful opening the box. I run a table knife along the flap to loosen it, Carefully unroll the edge of the plastic wrap for a couple of inches and then set the roll back in the box and close the flap.

There is a push-in tab on each end of the box. Use the same dinner knife to push these tabs to the inside of the roll in the box. They make it easier to slowly unroll the cling-wrap without the roll coming out of the box.

I try to tear off a piece of Saran and hold each end of the length with the thumb and first finger of each hand until I can put it over the bowl, or on the counter. It can be tricky at times.

I think they all cling in unwanted places, especially if I am in a hurry

while typing this thread, I looked up at the tv and hsn was having a demo on a container to put plastic wrap roll in to make it easier to pull out and use. I really doubt those things help tho.

don't know if that jogged my mind to ask about it or not, but just yesterday I saw Martha S on tv with a recipe for cookies (that sound great) and the dough needed refrigerated before rolling out. For some reason I don't think putting in a plastic container is the way to go.

anyone know if that is ok to do?

back in the 70s after trying a few types of plastic wrap that all drove me nutso, I just kept throwing them out after a few tries. I swore them all off and haven't used any in all of these yrs!

oh, and I'm much less hand coordinated now than back then in my younger yrs. with arthritis and 4 trigger fingers now I expect I'd be all thumbs with it...

Just had a big fight with my dollar store "cling wrap" yesterday. It won. Again. I don't understand why it sticks to itself when I'm trying to cut it off the box but doesn't stick to anything else once I've unstuck it from itself. Waxed paper. Elastic bowl covers. Foil. If all else fails, a plastic bag!

I use glass dishes with glass lids. Very little plastic wrap.

that's how I remember it... wow. I thought for sure they'd come up with a better wrap since the 70s!

well, I guess I could put the dough in the plastic bag I got at the store deli area when I bought 2 Kaisers rolls... i'll shake out any crumbs but they probably wouldn't kill the cookie dough anyway.

I use plastic containers with lids for normal storage. guess i'll save me a few $s and lots of frustration and not buy any wrap.

Steph, I wrap my dough in wax paper and put it in a bowl with a lid. A ziplock would work too but harder to get in and out.

When I feel I need to use the stuff, I use a product called Stretch-Tite. Pretty readily available, behaves quite well, clings where it is supposed to and not to itself! I like reusing plastic bags and my containers with lids when I can

We use quite a bit of it. We bought a huge roll at Sam's Club- it's the same stuff that commercial kitchens use. It works well, is cheaper than the small rolls in the long run, and one roll lasts us YEARS. There is a certain technique to using it, that's for sure.

You can have the small box of Saran Wrap that I bought at the grocery before I could get to Costco. Pure crap. The Costco Kirkland brand Stretch-Tite is infinitely superior.

I use the Costco product too. I have the box in a drawer next to the refrigerator and use the little sliding cutter on the box. Never have to pick up the box in one hand, tear with the second while hoping the plastic doesn't stick to itself ;-) That box never leaves the drawer, it just stays there handy and neat while I pull out a length with one hand and slide the cutter with the other, rarely puts up a fight.

The Costco/Kirkland brand is actually a brand called Stretch-Tite. You can find it by that name (same yellow/blue box) in other stores; but only the Kirkland roll has the slide cutter. Supermarket Stretch-Tite also only comes in the 250'-length so much smaller rolls. However, I noticed the Kirkland has recently changed; it is thinner and much harder to control now. Very similar to Saran Wrap these days. I believe the Freeze-Tite is thicker and less "clings to itself" so I may try switching to that.

Glad makes a non-clingy wrap called Press'n Seal that works very well, but it only comes in the standard 33.9 yd rolls.
