Enjoyable busy-ness -- it's a good thing!

Moni - I have always been impressed reading about you bicycling adventures. My daughter and her family have lived in Germany for the last 3 years and have no car, which as you know is not that unusual there. They have bikes with baskets, seats for the babies, and a trailer to pull along behind Daddy's bicycle. Last weekend they took a family day trip that was a total of 16 miles. My 5 year old granddaughter rode her own bicycle and, of course, had no training wheels. They stopped a few times to let her rest but she had no problem keeping up. She learned last year on the balance bike and just rides everywhere now. She made the same journey as a 4 year old but the spent the night at 8 miles then returned 8 miles the next day. They will surely miss the bicycle trails when they move back here.

Now I know the true meaning of "Where there's a will, there's a way". Good job, Moni. You couldn't start of June in a better way for you than a visit from the kids and a bike ride!

Just wanted to let you know that "Trailrunner"- who posts on the Home Decorating forum here (on the conversation side of it) is leaving tomorrow on her bike trip. She leaves from Victoria, BC. She travelled last summer from Key West to Maine. She is planning on posting updates along the way with pictures.

A man whom I met a few years ago at the old guys' coffee hour Lambeth village church had come from The Netherlands after World War II, worked in Toronto for a time, then moved to Northern Ontario, where he could buy land over 50 years ago for 50 cents per acre ... but had to live there and improve it.

On retirement and following the death of his wife he rented an apartment at a vet's office near Lambeth, the village where I attend church (the one that Iva Mae doesn't) and had a large garden outside his door. Later he moved to a seniors' home in this village, Komoka, and I was invited to his 85th birthday party here three years ago: three daughters and a son. I often come to the library here and used to see him t/here. He rode an electric bike frequently.

The other day, while travelling a rural highway several miles from his home village, to play music with a friend ... he was hit by a car and I attended his funeral this morning ... his 88th birthday.

Car driver charged with careless driving ... but it doesn't bring Gerrit van Laar back ... to life in this dimension, at least.
